Freddy’s Perfect (Event) # 10
After starting the day with the chip lead Farzad “Freddy” Rouhani went wire-to-wire Saturday to win his first World Series of Poker bracelet in Event #10 ($2,500 Omaha/ Seven-card Stud Eight-or-better). Rouhani defeated Tom Chambers heads-up to seal the win.
"I must admit that I really do need the money. Everyone needs the money," Rouhani said following this win. "But this gold bracelet to me means a whole lot more. It is the thing that everyone in poker dreams of."
Throughout the event players played eight hands of the Stud variation followed by eight hands of the Omaha variation. Rouhani won the event when he made quad threes with an eight-low during a rotation of Omaha Eight-or-better.
First place paid $232,911, pushing Rouhani’s career earnings over $800,000. The closest he had come to a bracelet prior to Saturday was a runner-up finish in 2006 in a $2,000 No Limit Hold’em event.
Chambers, who is not the former NBA player of the same name, collected $142,784 for his runner-up finish. “Miami” John Cernuto rounded out the top three and added $86,117 to his lifetime winnings.
Also making the final table – his first – was Michael “the Grinder” Mizrachi. Despite coming in as the fifth largest stack, Mizrachi wound up busting first, collecting $24,095.
