A SENIOR MOMENT
Las Vegas, NV (June 20, 2011) -- The 2011 World Series of Poker continues to shatter records.

The Seniors No-Limit Hold'em Championship attracted the largest turnout in history -- with a whopping 3,752 entries.  Incredibly, attendance was up nearly 20 percent over last year's turnout, which was then an all-time record.  In fact, the capacity crowd represented the largest single-day start for any live tournament in poker history.

The winner was James Hess, from Encino, CA.  He earned $557,435 in prize money -- the biggest payout ever for what is commonly known as the seniors poker world championship.  Hess was also presented with his first-ever WSOP gold bracelet, the game's ultimate achievement.  This marked Hess' third time to cash at the WSOP.

Predictably, the battle was not easy.  What was originally planned as a three-day competition extended into an early morning fourth day, when the action concluded just shy of 4 am.  Hess made trip sixes on the final hand of the tournament, topping his final adversary, Richard Hardwood -- who showed two pair.

With the conclusion of Event #30, the 2011 WSOP has now crossed the midway point -- both in terms of total days and number of events.  So far, several attendance and prize money records has been set at the Rio in Las Vegas.

The 2011 WSOP continues in Las Vegas through July 19th.

If you've ever watched the World Series of Poker and thought that could be me, you're not alone. Since 1970, the WSOP has been the place where that dream lives. Most people know the summer series in Las Vegas, where the $10,000 Main Event turns ordinary players into legends. But the WSOP calendar has grown well beyond that. WSOP Europe and WSOP Paradise now bring bracelet competition to international destinations, and dozens of Circuit events run year-round for players who want serious competition closer to home. Whether you're grinding a Circuit stop or taking your shot at the Main Event, the hardware means something. Winning a gold bracelet or Circuit ring is more than just a trophy. It's a permanent record that you are a champion. For players in Nevada, New Jersey, Michigan, and Pennsylvania, WSOP Online has become something worth paying attention to. It's the only platform in the US where you can win a poker tournament for official WSOP gold bracelets without leaving home! The WSOP also offers deposit limits and self-exclusion tools because the best poker rooms have always known that keeping poker players healthy keeps the game healthy. From your first Circuit event to a final table in Las Vegas, WSOP is still where you go to prove something.
