Jeff Platt Bags Big in Event #43: $1,000 Double Stack

Jeff Platt

Day 2 of the Event #43: $1,000 Double Stack saw the 1,064 survivors between Day 1a and Day 1b convene into a single field and battle it out on the green felt until just 149 players remained. By the time the dust settled, Jeff Platt stood tall as the probable chip leader going into Day 3 after accumulating 3,315,000 in chips. Not far behind him is Sylvian Naets with 2,740,000 in chips.

Platt, who is well-known for providing commentary on ESPN and PokerGO, will be seeking his first WSOP gold bracelet. Platt was able to steadily build his stack, including when he won a flip later in the day on his way to becoming the chip leader. To date, Platt has racked up over $300,000 in live-tournament earnings according to The Hendon Mob and is now poised to make a deep run in the event.

Day 2 Action

Eliminations came swiftly right out the gate, with the one-thousand-strong field being reduced to 600 within the first three levels of play. The money bubble burst after Alexandre Reard busted with pocket sevens against a flopped set of Monika Thorn, which guaranteed the remaining 599 players would make at least $1,602 for their efforts. Some notables who busted before making the money include Barry Greenstein, Maria Konnikova, Steve Wilkie, and Ari Engel.

Among those fortunate enough to make the money, but not survive the day include Kristy Arnett (487th - $1,752), Jerry Wong (488th - $1,752), Chris Moorman (447th - $1,752), Chad Holloway (433rd - $1,752), Kitty Kuo (352nd - $2,002), Eric Baldwin (323rd - $2,212), Maria Ho (311th - $2,212), Cherish Andrews (267th - $2,463), and Andrew Barber (192nd - $2764)

Still in contention are Jeff Boski (445,000), Kenny Nguyen (1,250,000), Matt Vaughan (2,255,000), 2014 WSOP Main Event Champion Martin Jacobson (590,000), and Andrew Moreno (1,240,000) – who is looking to add to his already stellar year. Moreno took down a Mid-Stakes Poker Tour Event for $127,740 and The Wynn Millions event back in June.

Day 3 is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. local time and the remaining field will play for another 10 hour-long levels. Play will resume on level 22 with 15,000/30,000 blind and a 30,000 big blind ante. Players will receive a 15-minute break after every two hours and an hour-long dinner break after Level 29 at approximately 7 p.m.

Be sure to stick with PokerNews as we continue to bring you the action leading to an eventual WSOP Double Stack gold-bracelet winner!

Garcia Gets a Fold From Farrell

Niall Farrell opened to 50,000 from early position and was called by Carlos Garcia in the lojack.

Both players checked down on the     flop and   turn; however, Farrell bet 75,000 when the   completed the board. Garcia then raised to 230,000 — sending Farrell deep into the tank.

Farrell eventually let his hand go and Garcia scooped the pot.

Wysotchanski Eliminated; Guay More Than Doubles

Action was picked up with all cards on their backs and two players all in and at risk.

Wagner Wysotchanski:
David Guay:
JeeWok Oh:

The board ran out       and Guay once again found himself on the winning side of a massive pot. Wysotchanski could not find an ace to stay alive and was eliminated. Oh could not catch a jack but covered the other two players. Guay now sits among the biggest stacks in the room.
