ASHER CONNIFF WINS FIRST CIRCUIT RING IN BALLYS MAIN EVENT
1 April, 2019 (Las Vegas) – Asher Conniff, already a household name throughout much of the poker world, has added another accolade to his already impressive list of accomplishments. He’s now a World Series of Poker Circuit ring winner after taking first place in the Main Event at the Circuit series at Bally’s in Las Vegas, earning $193,147.
“I feel really good,” Conniff said after the tournament. “A little relieved. A little tired and a little hungry. But more than anything happy and excited. It always feels good to win a tournament, especially one with 600 people.”
The relief is perhaps natural after spending several hours navigating a tough final table that included Simon Deadman, Justin Young, and Stanley Lee. Lee was looking to take home his second ring of the Bally’s Circuit after winning an event here less than a week ago.
Conniff entered the final day with the chip lead, and quickly extended the lead as the field reached the final table. He stayed ahead most of the way, but fell behind three handed against Young and Joshua Suyat. But after regaining the lead and eliminating Young, heads-up play lasted only a short while before Conniff took the rest of Suyat’s chips as well.
The tournament started with 607 entries, generating a prize pool worth $919,605. The top 63 players made the money. There were two starting flights (250 entries in Flight A on Friday and 357 in Flight B on Saturday). A total of 118 players returned for Day 2 on Sunday, and 12 survived to Day 3 Monday.
Along with the Circuit ring and the first-place prize money, Conniff earns a free seat into the 2019 WSOP Global Casino Championship, to be held in August. He’ll be joined there by Stanley Lee, who finished in ninth place in this Main Event. Lee’s performance in the Main Event earns him enough Circuit points to secure the title of Casino Champion. At each Circuit stop, the Main Event winner and Casino Champion earn free seats into the Global Casino Championship.
