GRANT THARINGTON WINS 2026 WSOP MAIN EVENT SEAT GIVEAWAY

Las Vegas, Nevada (July 1, 2026) – For one poker player from a small town in North Carolina, a dream that once seemed impossible is about to become reality.
Grant Tharington has been selected as the winner of the 2026 World Series of Poker Main Event Seat Giveaway, earning a $10,000 seat into poker's most prestigious tournament. While thousands of players around the world dream of one day competing in the WSOP Main Event, the giveaway has transformed that dream into reality for a recreational player who never imagined he would have the opportunity to take his shot on poker's biggest stage.
Grant Tharington wins a once-in-a-lifetime WSOP Main Event seat
With the 2026 WSOP Main Event set to begin tomorrow at Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas, Tharington will now join thousands of players from around the globe in pursuit of poker's most coveted title and the chance to become the next world champion.
For Tharington, the journey to the WSOP Main Event began more than two decades ago during one of poker's most influential eras.
"I've been playing poker since the Moneymaker era," Tharington said. "I started out playing on PokerStars and Full Tilt. Even though it's been about 20-plus years, I've only sporadically played online and really not much live experience. I have only ever been to the Cherokee Circuit events and played live there. I'm definitely not a GTO-studied player, but I think I can hold my own."
Like countless poker fans inspired by Chris Moneymaker's historic 2003 WSOP Main Event victory, Tharington discovered the game during the Poker Boom. Unlike many professionals who have dedicated their careers to mastering game theory and playing high-volume tournament schedules, Tharington has remained a passionate recreational player, balancing poker with everyday life while occasionally testing himself in live tournament action.
His live tournament experience has primarily been limited to WSOP Circuit stops in Cherokee, North Carolina, making the leap from regional events to the World Series of Poker Main Event one of the biggest jumps imaginable in tournament poker.
That dramatic leap is precisely what makes the WSOP Main Event Seat Giveaway so special. Every year, poker fans dream about competing for the world championship, but for many players, the $10,000 buy-in represents a financial hurdle that keeps the dream out of reach.
For Tharington, that obstacle was simply too great.
"I have never played the WSOP Main Event," he explained. "I honestly never thought I would. This is really a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for me. I'm from a small northwestern NC town and spending $10,000 on a poker tournament is just not an option for me."
Instead of merely watching poker's biggest tournament from afar, Tharington will now walk through the tournament room at Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas alongside poker legends, bracelet winners, online qualifiers, and hopeful amateurs from across the world.

Grant Tharington was announced as the winner during the daily WSOP Countdown Show.
How Tharington discovered he won a 2026 WSOP Main Event seat
The moment Tharington discovered he had won was one he certainly won't forget.
Rather than anxiously watching the live drawing, Tharington had moved on with his day. By sheer coincidence, he tuned into the following day's broadcast, only to discover that he had become the story everyone was discussing.
"I literally choked on my KFC chicken tenders," Tharington recalled. "I missed the countdown show where the winner was announced and had honestly forgotten about the drawing. I just happened to be watching the next day WSOP Live Countdown broadcast and my name became the topic of discussion, so to say shocked is an understatement."
It was a fittingly surreal moment for someone who had never expected to hear his name associated with the WSOP Main Event.
Now, instead of wondering what it would be like to compete in poker's world championship, Tharington is preparing to take his seat among thousands of players chasing poker immortality.
While every Main Event participant dreams of making the final table, Tharington is approaching the experience with gratitude more than expectation.
"It's crazy to even think this is possible," he said. "How in the world am I going to be playing the Main Event this weekend?! Making a deep run could significantly change my life. I would pay off debt and figure out where I'd like to invest some and would love to be able to give back in some way. This is an awesome gift that's been given to me, and I'm so grateful for the opportunity. I don't feel as if I have anything to prove in winning or making a deep run. I just want to enjoy this experience and take full advantage of it."
That perspective captures what makes the World Series of Poker Main Event unique. While millions of dollars are awarded each summer, the tournament has always been about more than prize money. It represents the opportunity for everyday players to compete against the best in the world, create lifelong memories, and perhaps write an unforgettable poker story of their own.
Tharington also hopes to bring poker fans along for the ride as he embarks on what promises to be the biggest tournament of his life.
"I can do this, but I'm not good at doing stuff like this," he said. "But I want to enjoy it to the fullest, and it's pretty cool that others may be interested in going on this journey with me."
Whether his run lasts a single day or carries deep into the tournament, Tharington has already achieved something remarkable. A player who spent years enjoying poker from his home in northwestern North Carolina will now take his place in the same event that has crowned legends of the game and produced some of poker's most iconic moments.
As cards go into the air for the 2026 World Series of Poker Main Event on ESPN, Grant Tharington won't simply be another name in the field. He'll represent the countless recreational players who fell in love with poker during the Moneymaker boom, continued playing for the enjoyment of the game, and never stopped dreaming that one day they might get their own shot at poker's ultimate prize.
