KRISTEN BICKNELL MAKES IT TEN FOR CANADA WITH LADIES EVENT VICTORY

Watch out world, the Canadians are in double digits.
Ottawa's Kristen Bicknell collected the tenth gold bracelet for Canada this summer after taking down the Ladies No Limit Hold'em Championship event. In what was her first-ever WSOP cash and first final table appearance, Bicknell defeated Leslie Haas, who was looking to win another bracelet for the country of Australia. Bicknell collected $173,922 for first, while Haas earned a tidy sum of $107,616 for the runner-up finish.
The win extends the record number of bracelets for a non-American country to ten. Throwing Daniel Negreanu's APAC Main Event win into the tally, that makes 11 bracelets in 2013 for the Northern powerhouse.
This year’s Ladies No Limit Hold’em event drew 954 players and generated a prize pool of $858,600. The top 117 players each earned a payday of at least $1,631. Some of the notables who cashed in this tournament were Ting Ho (87th), Jackie Glazier (83rd), Sandra Wong (72nd), Esther Taylor (63rd), Liv Boeree (54th), Danielle Andersen (44th), and Poker Hall of Famer Barbara Enright (25th).
This year’s event featured a change in the buy-in which allowed men to buy-in to this tournament for $10,000, while all of the female participants received a 90% “discount” and could buy-in for $1,000. This year’s Ladies Event field was comprised entirely of females.
The final table featured an international line-up of players from France, England, Australia, Canada, and the United States. It also featured one woman, Chris Priday (8th), who final tabled this event previously. Back in 2008, Priday took fourth in this event. The final table also featured Circuit ring winner Mandy Baker (7th) and 2011 WSOPE Ladies Event runner-up Eleanor Gudger (6th).
