WSOP CIRCUIT EASTERN REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP BEGINS SUNDAY, DECEMBER 19

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ – In what will be the last major tournament of 2010, Harrah’s Resort Atlantic City is proud to host the WSOP Circuit Eastern Regional Championship which begins on Sunday, December 19th at 11:00 AM.

The second of four, nationally-televised regional championship events, the $10,000 buy-in, No Limit Hold’em tournament will showcase poker’s top brass as they compete for their share of what will be a generous prize pool, a seat into the $1 million dollar Circuit National Championship and the diamond-encrusted WSOP Circuit Regional Championship gold ring.

Extensive coverage of the event will air on VERSUS network in 2011.

The four-day tournament’s structure is one of the most optimized in poker, with 30,000 starting chips and 60-minute levels through the first day beginning with 25/50 blinds. 75 minute levels will be played through the remaining three days.

Players can late buy into the event through the end of the fifth level.

The first Regional Championship was held in October at Horseshoe Hammond, which attracted 226 players, generating a total prize pool of $2.1 million. The event attracted a roster of poker’s top pros, including Barry Greenstein, Gavin Smith, Chad Brown, Vanessa Selbst and 2010 WSOP Player of the Year, Frank Kassela, among others.

However, it was Jim Anderson, a former bartender from Wooster, OH, who took down the $525,449 first place prize.

PokerNews will provide live updates of the Eastern Regional Championship, which will conclude Wednesday, December 22.

Even in this post-UIGEA landscape, 2010 has been quite a stellar year for poker, in particular, for the richest gaming event on the planet, the World Series of Poker.

Larger than expected numbers during the 2010 WSOP and a revamped format for the WSOP Circuit Tour, has resulted in record-breaking attendance and all signs point to that continuing.

This year’s WSOP Circuit Event at Harrah’s Resort has been a success so far, drawing 1,250 players for its opening day event, a record for the Circuit stop. Throughout the series, steady numbers have continued to pour into the ballroom at Harrah’s, the venue for the WSOP Circuit Events.

If you've ever watched the World Series of Poker and thought that could be me, you're not alone. Since 1970, the WSOP has been the place where that dream lives. Most people know the summer series in Las Vegas, where the $10,000 Main Event turns ordinary players into legends. But the WSOP calendar has grown well beyond that. WSOP Europe and WSOP Paradise now bring bracelet competition to international destinations, and dozens of Circuit events run year-round for players who want serious competition closer to home. Whether you're grinding a Circuit stop or taking your shot at the Main Event, the hardware means something. Winning a gold bracelet or Circuit ring is more than just a trophy. It's a permanent record that you are a champion. For players in Nevada, New Jersey, Michigan, and Pennsylvania, WSOP Online has become something worth paying attention to. It's the only platform in the US where you can win a poker tournament for official WSOP gold bracelets without leaving home! The WSOP also offers deposit limits and self-exclusion tools because the best poker rooms have always known that keeping poker players healthy keeps the game healthy. From your first Circuit event to a final table in Las Vegas, WSOP is still where you go to prove something.
