Made a mistake. Total brain fart. But, I think the ruling was wrong too.
For context, remember why we have rules like both players showing their cards at an all-in: to prevent chip dumping to a friend.
In my case, we made it to the river, my opponent made a bet, and I thought I lost. I expose my cards, showing the nut flush.
The dealer instantly snapped my cards into the muck, and then saw my confusion, asking whether I meant to fold.
Dazed that he’d mucked my cards so fast, I said yes (that’s on me), and realized my error. The floor rules that since I agreed to fold, my opponent wins.
His boss came out; she concurred. But, here’s why I strongly believe they’re both wrong.
Because, it doesn’t matter what I said. Not in this case. Once a winning hand has been shown, the winner is not ALLOWED to fold.
Why not? Because, otherwise they would be enabling collusion or chimp dumping to a friend. In this case, my confusion and words are irrelevant. Altho embarrassing.
