Joao Simao Wins Triton Closing Event for $3,067,000 and Inagural Title

WSOP Paradise continued today from Atlantis Paradise Island, Bahamas, with the conclusion of Event #10: $150,000 Triton NLH 8-Handed.

@Joao Simao

defeated fellow Brazilian

@Felipe Darsa Boianovsky

heads-up to take home the $3,067,000 first-place prize, his first Triton trophy, and his third WSOP gold bracelet.

Simao’s had a stellar second half of the year, picking up trophies at NAPT, BSOP, and now multiple deep runs and a Triton trophy and bracelet here in Paradise.

The tournament drew a total of 77 entrants to create a prize pool worth $11,550,000, and the final 13 players all got a piece of it.

@Ding Biao

was the unfortunate bubble boy when his ace-queen couldn’t improve against

@Jonathan Jaffe

’s pocket jacks, and from there it was a race to the seven-figure payouts.

A flurry of bust outs after dinner, including the double elimination of

@Cary Katz

and

@Bryn Kenney

on the final table bubble, brought us to a final table of seven, where Simao sat in the middle of the pack.

However, he got off to a strong start and was the beneficiary of

@John Pannucci

‘s chips after eliminating him in seventh-place by cracking his aces with ace-queen. Then, it was all Boianovsky, who was responsible for the next four eliminations. Dispatching

@David Coleman

(6th), then Jaffe (5th), and former Ivan Leow Player of the Year

@Daniel Tang

(4th) in a double knockout.

The final three were an all Brazilian affair, with

@Yuri Dzivielevski

, Boianovsky’s final victim, bowing out in third-place. This sent Boianovsky into heads-up play with a three-to-one chip lead over Simao.

Simao quickly closed the gap by rivering a straight in a big pot early on, and then took over the chip lead a few hands later when he got a fold after raising Boianovsky’s flop bet. After the two sent pots back-and-forth for quite some time, Simao woke up with a pair of jacks and limped the button. Boianovsky check-called it off with

10

on an

A

runout to see Simao table

Final Table Results :
