Aleks Ponakovs Bulldozes Field to Win Triton Main Event for $4,750,000; Collects First Triton Title and 3rd WSOP Gold Bracelet

WSOP Paradise continued today from Atlantis Paradise Island, Bahamas with the final day of Event #9: $100,000 Triton Main Event.

After a series of close calls, including two runner-up finishes,

@Aleksejs Ponakovs

can finally claim the title of Triton champion. Ponakovs collected his first Triton trophy, the $4,750,000 first-place prize, and his third WSOP gold bracelet after a dominant performance that saw him enter the day chip leading the final 11 players, and only dip briefly after a failed bluff attempt into the nut-flush of runner-up finisher

@Pedro Padilha Chaves

.

The tournament drew a massive field of 237 entrants to create a prize pool worth $23,700,000, and the final 39 players all earned a piece of it.

@Nicholas Schulman

was the unfortunate bubble boy when he three-bet shoved 22 big blinds with ace-queen suited and ran into the ace-king suited of

@Stephen Chidwick

.

From there the field would whittle down quickly and after the elimination of

@Jason Koon

on the final table bubble, the nine remaining players converged to one table.

Ponakovs would enter the final table as the top stack, and after the eliminations of

@Adrian Mateos

(9th),

@Jean-Noel Thorel

(8th),

@Yang Wang

(7th), and

@Eelis Paerssinen

(6th), he would go on a tear and eliminate

@Klemens Roiter

(5th),

@Wang Ye

(4th), and

@Manuel Fritz

(3rd) to get heads-up with Padilla as a nearly two-to-one favorite.

Heads-up would only last a few hands and the tournament reached its conclusion when Ponakovs limped the button with

9
9

and Padilla moved all in from the big blind with

A
9

. The board ran out

2nd: Pedro Padilha - $3,160,000
3rd: Manuel Fritz - $2,311,000
