Sam Soverel Wins Event #3: $100,000 Triton PLO Main Event ($2,594,00)

It was a quick heads-up match between

after play was halted last night due to time constraints. After just a few hands, Soverel came out on top to claim his first Triton title and fourth WSOP bracelet.

Despite a 15-hour day that bled into the morning hours, the two players came back refreshed this evening. In the end, it was the American’s pocket kings that held up against Nemeth’s pocket jacks.

Both players walked away with healthy pay cheques in the seven-figure range. The only other player to do so was

who bowed out in third place for $1,135,000 to cap off Day 2.

The high roller and Triton series will now turn its attention to the $250,000 Invitational where Day 2 will get underway tomorrow afternoon.

Past 4am in the morning now,

have been forced to call it quits. The tournament staff have put a halt to the action and they will begin their heads-up match at a to-be-determined time tomorrow night.

Daniel Dvoress Eliminated in 3rd Place (1,138,000)

A three-bet pot between the two big stacks led to a pot of nearly 6,000,000 before the flop. It came

flopped a set of threes against the pocket kings from

. All of the chips went in the middle and it was Dvoress who was at risk.

A brick on the turn left Dvoress drawing to one of two remaining kings but instead it was a fourth three for Soverel. Dvoress was ousted in third place for a seven-figure payday.

Soverel Lays the Trap

and Soverel led out with a bet of 375,000. Nemeth called and the

A brick on the river and Soverel opted to check this time. Nemeth escaped by checking it back and Soverel scooped the winner.

Soverel Regretting His Decision

It’s been a slippery slope for

since the return from their short break. After being the first player to speak up that he wished to continue playing tonight, Soverel has yet to win a pot and is now on the short stack.

“I guess we should’ve come back tomorrow,” Soverel said with a smirk. “Haven’t won a pot yet.”

The Night Lives On

The three remaining players were given the option to continue playing past the 3am hour or to bag up and fight for the title tomorrow night.

They have agreed to continue playing for now, but chose to take a quick 10-minute break. Here is a look at how they stack up:

to give Soverel trips. There was no help for Gryko on the runout who was forced to settle for another fourth-place finish.

Philip Sternheimer Eliminated in 5th Place ($760,000)

After taking a big hit to his stack,

appeared to quickly turn it around with a double up. However, picking up pocket kings a short while later led to his demise.

flopped a straight and all of the chops went into the middle. Sternheimer turned a double gutshot to keep his hopes alive, but the river bricked out, leaving just four players to fight for the title.

Sternheimer Can’t Escape the Kings

Dvoress fired another bullet on the turn and Sternheimer stuck around for the

on the river. Dvoress jammed all in but Sternheimer didn’t believe the story as he looked him up only to see the bad news.

“I just didn’t believe you,” Sternheimer said afterward.

“I didn’t believe him either,” Sam Soverel chimed in.

The Turns Have Tabled

It was a rollercoaster of a hand between

. Gryko flopped two pair but was check-raised by the nut-flush draw from Sternheimer.

The flush came in on the turn but Gryko stuck around to see his two pair turn into a full house on the river. Sternheimer checked the river and Gryko slid out a large bet. Sternheimer made the right fold but it was Gryko who pulled in a large pot.

Ben Lamb Eliminated in 6th Place ($599,000)

looked down at pocket aces on the short stack and went heads-up to a flop with

who defended from the big blind.

It appeared to be a dry board and Nemeth led out with a bet after flopping two pair. Lamb raised the pot and the two players eventually got all of their chips in the middle.

Nemeth turned the nut straight and Lamb was left drawing dead to the river, bowing out in sixth place.

Joni Jouhkimainen Eliminated in 7th Place ($458,000)

entered the final table as the shortest stack of 11 big blinds. Starting in the big blind, Jouhkimainen defended a raise from

and saw a flop of

. Sternheimer continued with a big bet and Jouhkimained called off the last of his chips.

The Finn was out front with two pair but it didn’t last long as running fives gave Sternheimer trip fives. Jouhkimainen was eliminated in seventh place and forced to settle for $458,000.

Coming back from the break,

had a single chip of the smallest denomination in play. It was forced into the pot from the big blind and

woke up with pocket aces. Barbero flopped a pair but was unable to improve from there.

The final seven players will now redraw to the final table. There will be another 10 minute break while the players are introduced to their seats.
