RIVER OF DREAMS
Sep 07 2011 12:01 AM EST

Bossier City, LA (September 7, 2011) – If any state can lay claim to being the cradle of poker, it is most certainly Louisiana.
Poker, which evolved from the French card game called poque, originated in and around New Orleans. During the early 1800s, the game gradually spread to riverboats which steamed up and down the mighty Mississippi River. Indeed, poker’s most popular card game may now be known as “Texas Hold’em.” But Louisiana is poker’s real birthplace.
2011-2012 WSOP CIRCUIT SEASON KICKS OFF!
It’s fitting that the World Series of Poker Circuit will begin its eighth season in Louisiana. In fact, for the first time ever, the world’s longest-running and most prestigious poker tournament series will be played in Northern Louisiana. The Horseshoe Bossier City Casino and Hotel will host the first of 16 WSOP Circuit stops. The eighth season of WSOP Circuit action begins in Bossier City on September 8, 2011 and ends nine months later at Harrah’s New Orleans, May 21, 2012.
The Horseshoe Bossier City Casino and Hotel is the perfect location for a major poker tournament. The venue, located on the river which divides Bossier City from Shreveport, is situated in the heart of what's called The Boardwalk, a bustling commercial neighborhood full of restaurants, bars, and shopping. There are numerous hotels in the area which can accommodate players on just about any budget. Poker players may also wish to stay at the luxurious Horseshoe Bossier City, which has special discounted rates for players during the tournament series, which runs September 8-19.
The inaugural WSOP Circuit schedule at Horseshoe Bossier City includes 12 gold ring events. There are also nightly second-chance tournaments. Thirty poker tournaments will take place. Satellites and cash games will run around the clock.

MORE ABOUT THE WSOP CIRCUIT
The 2011-2012 WSOP Circuit season promises to be the most exciting ever. A number of improvements were made to last season’s WSOPC, including optimized, standardized structures, a cumulative ranking system and the addition of a season-culminating National Championship. These enhancements will remain in place this season.
This season’s unofficial motto is “12 Rings in 12 Days.” Each of the sixteen WSOP Circuit stops will begin on a Thursday and open the three-day Main Event on the second following Saturday, thereby encompassing a total of 12 official WSOP gold ring events over 12 consecutive days.
As with all stops this year, the Main Event will follow a re-entry format, meaning there will be two starting flights with players eliminated in flight A having the option to re-enter into flight B. The Horseshoe Main Event begins Saturday, September 17 and runs through Monday, September 19.

In addition to first place prize money and the coveted WSOP Circuit gold ring, the winner of the Main Event will receive an automatic entry into the WSOP Circuit National Championship – which will once again take place just prior to the start of the WSOP in Las Vegas. A second seat to the national championship will be awarded to the player who earns the most points through the 12 ring events scheduled at Horseshoe Bossier City.
