NOVEMBER NINE FINALIST JOHN RACENER HOLDS CHIP LEAD IN LONDON
2010 is turning into a banner year for John Racener.

The 25-year-old poker pro from Port Richey, FL (USA) currently holds the chip lead after Day Two in the ₤5,000 (+250) buy-in Pot-Limit Omaha championship, currently being played at the uber-chic Casino at the Empire in London.  The stage is now set for what promises to be a thrilling conclusion to one of the most star-studded Pot-Limit Omaha tournaments in recent memory.  Indeed, this tournament attracted more than two-dozen former gold bracelet winners as well as many of the top Pot-Limit specialists in Europe.

Overcoming the odds appears to be no problem for Racener at the moment.  He is living a poker fairy-tale as one of the famed "November Nine."  Seven weeks from now, he will return to Las Vegas as one of the nine finalists in the 2010 WSOP Main Event championship in what could very well become a life-changing turn of events.  On break during the nearly four-month recess, in the meantime Racener decided to make a side trip to London to enter multiple events here at WSOP Europe.  His decision appeared to be a wise one, as the Florida poker pro with nearly $1.5 million in tournament winnings up to this point appears destined to add both to his bankroll and reputation as one of the game's hottest young new stars.

Despite some extraordinary play late on Day Two -- during which time Racener catapulted up from 22nd place at one point into the chip lead -- he faces a formidable test en route to possibly making poker history.  Among those who will challenge Racener are several familiar names who have already made their mark here in London.

Among them is Chris Bjorin, the Swedish-born local who is padding his lead as the player with the most WSOP Europe cashes of any player.  With a guaranteed in-the-money finish in this tournament, Bjorin has now cashed in six of the 13 tournaments played as part of WSOP Europe.  It would be hard to find any player anywhere who has matched the distinction of cashing in nearly half of the tournaments of a major poker series, particularly when the competition is acknowledged to be so formidable.

Others who remain alive include former gold bracelet winners Jeff Madsen, Willie Tann, and Jeffrey Lisandro

Day Three begins at 3 pm on Saturday afternoon and plays until the winner is determined.  Poker fans everywhere can follow the action live by clicking HERE.

This is the second of five gold bracelet tournaments on the 2010 WSOP Europe schedule.  Still to come are the ₤1,000 buy-in No-Limit Hold’em event, a first-time ₤10,000 buy-in Heads-Up No-Limit Hold’em event, and the ₤10,000 buy-in Main Event championship.

The third event on the WSOP Europe schedule also began on this day with the start of the ₤1,000 buy-in No-Limit Hold'em tournament.  Turnout is expected to be so large that three starting days are necessary.  The first day is now complete (1-A), with Danish poker player Jeppe Bisgaard holding the early chip lead.  Survivors from Days 1-A, 1-B (Saturday), and 1-C (Sunday) will return on Monday to continue on what will be Day 2.

The 2010 edition of WSOP Europe runs through September 28th.
