Choctaw holds its second stop of the season and runs 12 ring events from Wendesday, January 3 through Monday, January 15
Durant, OK (January 2, 2018) - The World Series of Poker Circuit season rings in 2018 with the second of two stops in Oklahoma. The first series of the new year kicks off on Wednesday afternoon with its second stop of the season at Choctaw Resort and Casino.
The January series at Choctaw is always one of the biggest series on the schedule and this year, the turnout isn’t expected to change. The battle for the 12 rings up for grabs at this stop starts on Tomorrow at noon with the first of four flights in the $365 no-limit hold’em monster stack event.
There are two flights, one at noon and one at 5 p.m., on both Wednesday and Thursday for the first event of the series. The survivors of the four flights come back on Friday for Day 2 of the event, which carries a $300,000 guarantee on its prizepool, and they will be running simultaneously with the start of the second multi-flight $365 no-limit hold’em event of the series.
The $365 no-limit hold’em re-entry event carries a $500,000 guaranteed prizepool and will have four starting flights as well. It mimics the monster stack schedule with two flights a day at noon and 5 p.m., with the survivors coming back on Sunday for Day 2.
The first weekend wraps up with the only single day turbo event on the schedule and the first of a two-day $365 Big O event, one of two non-hold’em events on the schedule.
The second week features no-limit hold’em events varying in buy-in between $365 and $1,125 leading up to the $1,125 pot-limit Omaha event and the $1,675 no-limit hold’em Main Event. Last year, Grant Hinkle defeated a field of 1,451 players to win $375,427 and a seat into the Global Casino Championship. Like every stop on the Circuit this year, the winner of the main event and the player who accrues the most points over the two weeks will win the Casino Championship.
Both will get a seat into the 2018 Global Casino Championship. At the first Circuit stop last November, Dan Lowery won the main event and Jeffrey Trudeau earned the Casino Champion crown to secure two of the spots in the 2018 GCC.
The main event will follow the same structure and schedule as nearly every other main event on the Circuit. Day 1A will get underway on the final Friday of the stop and Day 1B will kick off on the final Saturday of the stop. They will play Day 2 on Sunday and crown a winner late on Monday.
The series finishes up on Monday, January 15, with the winner of the final multi-flight event of the series. A $365 no-limit hold’em event with three starting flights and a $200,000 guaranteed prizepool will be the final champion of the series.
