CANADA STRIKES AGAIN: DANIEL IDEMA WINS $1,500 STUD HI-LOW
Daniel Idema surpassed the $1 million mark in career earnings at the WSOP with a victory in the $1,500 Seven Card Stud Hi-Low Split-8 or Better tournament. The event concluded during the early morning hours of Monday and Idema earned his second gold bracelet in addition to $184,590 in prize money.

Like Justin Oliver hours before him, Idema extended Canada's record for the most cashes for a non-U.S. country in a series, bringing the total to nine wins through just 39 events. The previous record of seven was set just a few weeks ago, but the Canadians kept rolling, locking up more two wins since then.

Idema is a 28-year-old former hockey player turned poker pro from Vancouver, BC. His Event 39 win marks his 19th WSOP cash, fifth final table appearance and second victory.

This year’s $1,500 Stud Eight or Better drew 558 players and generated a $753,300 prize pool. The top 56 finishers all made the money, including Mike Sexton (56th), Adam Friedman (49th), Phil Hellmuth (42nd), Jason Mercier (36th), Barbara Enright (23rd), Barry Greenstein (21st), Kristy Gazes (17th), Layne Flack (15th) and Poker Hall of Famer Linda Johnson, who bubbled the final table in ninth place.

The final table featured four-time bracelet winner Artie Cobb (9th) as well as Idema, who was making his second final table appearance of the summer. Idema wasn’t the only repeat final tablist in the line-up either. His fellow Canadian countryman Mike Leah (5th) was there as well, bringing the total of repeat final tablists this summer to 20. If you count Leah’s final table appearance at one of the APAC events earlier this year, this would be his third WSOP final table of 2013.

Here are the final table results from the $1,500 Stud Eight or Better event:

1st: Daniel Idema - $184,590
2nd: Joseph Hertzog - $114,109
3rd: Raul Paez - $71,736
4th: Matt Vengrin - $51,488
5th: Mike Leah - $37,552
6th: Tony Gill - $27,834
7th: Ying Chu - $20,964
8th: Artie Cobb - $16,037
