Event #8: Pot Limit Hold 'em
Location: Bally's/Paris Las Vegas
Buy-in: $500 (+50)
Number of Entries: 71
Number of Rebuys: 68
Total Prize Money: $115,915

Players were eliminated as follows:

9th Place: Gerald Rhoads, $3,477
8th Place: Jeff Yoak, $4,637
We saw fireworks on the second hand of the final table. Abe bet the pot under the gun, which put enough for Gerald to go 'all in.' Scott then followed suit by going 'all in,' as did Jeff. Abe folded, which left Gerald and Jeff 'all in' against Scott. As the players showed down, we saw the two 'all in' players with pocket aces and Scott with pocket kings. The flop of 10=9=J gave Scott the inside straight draw, which he filled with a queen on the turn. Only two kings remained to keep Gerald and Jeff alive, but it was not to be as a ten on the river gave Scott the winning hand and a knockout blow to two pocket aces. Gerald Rhoads finished in 9th place for $3,477, while Jeff Yoak took 8th place and $4,637.
7th Place: Yuctan Hodge, $5,796
Yuctan Hodge was the slight favorite when he got it 'all in' with pocket sevens against Scott's Ac-Kd. The flop turned that around quickly as it brought Ad=K=8d. This left Yuctan with a two outer, which became a one outer as a diamond fell on the turn, leaving only the seven of clubs for Yuctan to stay alive. The 10d on the river gave Scott the flush, and sent Yuctan home with 7th place and $5,796.
6th Place: Scott Levy, $6,955
Edward and Scott were heads up after the turn. The board of J-4-3-6 gave Edward top pair and the open-ended straight draw and Scott a set with pocket sixes. The players then went 'all in.' The river then brought the two of clubs, which gave Edward the straight and Scott Levy the 6th place finish, worth $6,955.
5th Place: Brian Wilson, $8,114
Brian Wilson got it 'all in' before the flop with 6-7 against Abe's A-K. The flop of 6=3=4 gave Brian top pair and some hope that he could stay alive. That is, until a king on the turn gave Abe top pair and a Q on the river did not improve Brian's hand. He took home 5th place honors and $8,114.
4th Place: Edward Moncada, $9,273
After the turn Edward got it 'all in' from the button, and was called by Abe. Abe's A-J was still in the lead over Edward, who held Kh-7H. With a board of 8h-9h-10s-4d, Edward had outs with any heart, six, or jack. A four of clubs on the river was not an out he needed, as Edward Moncada left with a 4th place finish and $9,273.
3rd Place: Abe Ghazai, $12,751
Abe and Young re-raised each other until Abe was 'all in' with A-7, which was behind the A-9 of Young's. The flop was no help as it brought 3=6=8. The turn of a ten gave Abe the inside straight draw, but the jack on the river was not the card to fill his straight. Abe Ghazai took home 3rd place and a cash prize of $12,751.
Runner up: Young Kang, $23,183
1st Place: Daniel Burke, $41,729
After a short heads up bout, Young was pot committed after the turn on a board that read 9-3-7-10. The cards showed that his Q-4 was behind Daniel's K-10 for top pair. Only a queen could save him, but a four on the river was the final card of the tournament. Young Kang's 2nd place finish was worth $23,183, while the winner, Daniel Burke earned $41,729 and the ring in event #8.
