How To Play | Lowball

Missing your straight by one card gets frustrating. If you find yourself getting tired of looking disgustedly at a hand of mismatched low-cards, lowball poker may be for you!

How to Play

Lowball poker refers to any of a number of poker variants in which traditionally "bad" hands beat out normally "good" ones. For example, a pair of eights would beat triple fours, and a 9-high no-pair would both of them.

Rules

Lowball is a form of five card draw poker where the lowest hand wins. Popular forms of lowball include Ace to Five - or California Lowball - and Deuce to Seven - or Kansas Lowball. Rules are similar to standard poker, with some notable variations.

Tips

Lowball is played much like other poker games, except that the scoring - which hands are winners - is much different. If you're looking for some lowball poker tips to help you get started then you've come to the right place. Everything you'll want to know from bluffing, to bankroll to tells all at the WSOP!

Strategy

A winning strategy for any variation of card game shares certain crucial elements. Poker is a game of odds, luck, and player interaction - and understanding those concepts is the key to a good game. Playing successfully does not always involve winning; you also need to know when to fold. No one wins every hand. Successful players just win more often than they lose, and they know how to limit losses. The same is true whether you're playing Texas Hold'em, Five Card Stud, Lowball Poker, or even Go Fish.
