It was a record-breaking return to Harrah's Cherokee for the World Series of Poker's 2022/2023 Circuit season, its first of four stops, as a record-setting field of 1,558 entries were recorded through two starting flights and a $2,360,370 prize pool was generated.


After a prize pool was calculated, 238 players were able to take a piece of it, but it was Brett Bader who walked away with the lion's share, as the Harrah's $1,700 Main Event title came with a $364,104 top prize and a seat into the 2023 Tournament of Champions.

Brett Bader raised to 1,100,000 and Matthew Wantman called to see a     flop. 

Wantman check-called a 1,200,000 continuation bet from Bader and the   fell on the turn. 

Wantman led out for 1,600,000 and Bader called bringing the   river. Wantman led out once again, this time for 8,000,000 only to have Bader raise all in. 

Wantman shrugged his shoulders and called off his stack holding slightly less. Wantman tabled    for the six-high straight, but it was no good as Bader rolled over    to win the tournament with sixes full of sevens.

Matthew Wantman raised to 800,000 and Brett Bader called, sending the two to the     flop. Bader checked, Wantman bet 500,000 and Bader called.

The turn was the   and both players checked to see the   on the river. Bader checked and Wantman bet 2,000,000 this time. Bader thought about it for a minute but opted to fold.

Matthew Wantman raised to 1,200,000 and Brett Bader called bringing a     flop. 

Bader check-called a 400,000 continuation bet from Wantman, and then did the same for 1,800,000 after the   fell on the turn. 

Bader checked his option once again, then snapped-off his 11,850,000 stack after Wantman moved out 21,000,000. 

"I have a queen," said Wantman who mucked his hand after seeing Bader table    for trip kings to win the double.

Matthew Wantman made it 1,200,000 to go and Brett Bader called.

The flop came     and Bader checked. Wantman bet 700,000, Bader called and the turn was the  . Bader check-called a bet of 2,800,000 this time and the dealer completed the board with the   on the river.

Bader checked for a third time and Wantman paused for a moment before cutting out a bet worth 8,400,000. Bader went into the tank for several moments and eventually folded.

Wantman flashed the    for a bluff and raked in the pot to take a big lead.

Matthew Wantman raised to 800,000 and Brett Bader three-bet to 3,000,000. Wantman called and the dealer fanned the     flop.

Bader opted to check and Wantman bet 2,100,000. Bader called and they saw the   on the turn. Bader checked and Wantman thought for a moment before jamming all in for about 15 million. Bader mucked.

Action was checked to the   turn where Wantman led out for 1,700,000 and Bader called to see the   complete the board on the river. 

Wantman moved in a 7,500,000 stack, leaving himself just 200,000 and Bader called after getting an official count. 

Wantman rolled over    for two-pair and it was good as Bader tossed    into the muck.

Amir Atabaki moved all in on the button for 2,950,000, Matthew Wantman folded his small blind and Brett Bader snap-called from the big blind.

Atabaki received the bad news when he tabled his hand and saw that Bader had him dominated. "I folded threes," said Wantman.

The dealer ran the board       and Atabaki was unable to improve, ending his Main Event run in 3rd place.

Thong Ho raised to 1,000,000 from under the gun, only to call off his newly acquired 6,100,000 stack after Matthew Wantman three-bet jammed for 6,650,000 from the small blind.

As soon as the cards were tabled, Ho started chanting, "No Ace, No King," as he was racing for his tournament life and stayed ahead after the     flop hit the felt. 

Even though Ho was still ahead, he added to his chant, " No Ace, No King, No Club," but the dealer turned the   leaving Ho with one out. 

Unfortunately for Ho, the   river wasn't the card to keep him alive and he departed in fourth place.
