John Beauprez's previous claim to poker fame was creating the Pot Limit Omaha training site PLO Quick Pro. After tonight's not so quick final table though, he will forever be known as a WSOP gold bracelet winner.
Beauprez defeated German poker pro Manig Loeser heads-up after a nearly three-hour battle to claim the bracelet in Event 6, a $1,500 Six-Handed No Limit Hold'em tournament. Beauprez earned $324,764 for the victory, while Loeser earned just over $200,000 for second place.
This is the biggest score of the 28 year-old Beauprez's poker career, who previously made two deep runs in the WSOP Main Event, taking 563rd in 2011 and 58th last year. This is his first WSOP victory at his first final table.
This $1,500 Six-Handed No Limit Hold’em event drew 1,069 players and generated a prize pool of $1,443,150. The top 108 finishers earned a payday in this event. Some of the notables who finished in the money included Steve Zolotow (94th), Bryan Piccioli (63rd), Jonathan Duhamel (44th), Yevgeniy Timoshenko (30th), Matt Salsberg (21st), and Rex Clinkscales (10th).
The final table featured two previous gold bracelet winners, Keven Stammen (6th), and Joe Cada, who was hoping to break what has been a bit of a curse for the past dozen or so Main Event Champions. No Main Event winner since Carlos Mortensen in 2001 has managed to win a bracelet after winning poker's biggest game. Cada got close to breaking that streak in a $1,500 No Limit Hold'em event last year only to finish second to Carter Phillips. This marks his second WSOP final table since winning the Main Event in 2009.
