Adding another major accomplishment to an already historic 2025 World Series of Poker (WSOP), Japan’s Shiina Okamoto pulled off the incredible feat of winning the $1,000 WSOP Ladies Event for the second straight year, taking home $184,094 and her second WSOP bracelet.
Las Vegas, Nevada (June 30, 2025) - The 2025 WSOP has already seen record breaking tournament turnouts and historic milestones from some of the game’s best, but another major achievement has been completed by one of poker’s newest rising stars.
Going the distance in the 2025 WSOP $1,000 Ladies Event, Japanese poker player Shiina Okamoto pulled off the impressive accomplishment of winning the same WSOP bracelet event in back-to-back years.
A reigning champion whose reign will continue for another year, what makes Okamoto’s performance in the Ladies Event even more profound is that prior to her back-to-back wins, she finished in second place in the same event two years ago at the 2023 WSOP.
A back-to-back champion who was nearly a back-to-back-to-back champion, Okamoto’s second career WSOP bracelet win adds $184,094 to her total career tournament winnings of just over $1 million.

How Shiina Okamoto won her second WSOP Ladies Event
From Day Two of the WSOP Ladies Event through the conclusion of the tournament, Okamoto would not relinquish the chip lead as she seemed destined to become a two-time, back-to-back champion.
Starting the final table with over three times the chips as the next biggest stack, Okamoto was in prime position to start eliminating opponents and drawing closer to her second career WSOP bracelet.
Eliminating fellow Japanese player Sumire Uenomachi (9th place for $26,131) one hour into the day, Okamoto would strike yet again when she eliminated Juliet Hegedus (8th place for $34,667) by winning a flip with ace-six versus pocket fours.
Although eventual third place ($87,695) finisher Stephani Hagberg would come close to challenging Okamoto’s chip lead, after losing a sizeable pot with top pair to Okamoto’s two pair Hagberg would be unable to dethrone the Queen of the Ladies Event.

Running two pair into Okamoto’s full boat, Hagberg would be eliminated after an incredibly impressive run, setting up a heads-up match between Heather Alcorn and the reigning champion.
Even with a double-up early into heads-up play, Acorn could not overcome the momentum and massive chip stack of Okamoto, eventually being the final elimination of the tournament (2nd place for $122,654.
On behalf of the WSOP, congratulations to Shiina Okamoto for the incredible accomplishment of winning back-to-back WSOP Ladies Events. We look forward to seeing Okamoto defend her title and attempt the three-peat during the 2026 WSOP.
