The last three players (L to R): Qui Nguyen, Cliff Josephy, Gordon Vayo
On the second day of the 2016 WSOP Main Event final table, Qui Nguyen continued the dominating performance he started yesterday. With one day remaining, Nguyen leads the three remaining players with 197,600,000 in chips. His closest competitor is Gordon Vayo with 89,000,000, and Cliff Josephy brings up the rear with 50,000,000.
The day actually got off to a rough start for Nguyen. On the fourth hand of the day, he doubled up Michael Ruane, who started today with the shortest stack. Just three hands later, he lost the chip lead when Gordon Vayo and Vojtech Ruzicka got involved in a huge all-in confrontation. Vayo came out on top, and he doubled up to take over the chip lead. Ruzicka was left severely short-stacked. The following hand, Ruzicka became the first elimination of the day. He finished in fifth place for $1,935,288.
A little less than an hour after Ruzicka's elimination, Qui Nguyen retook the chip lead for good in a hand against Gordon Vayo. Just a few hands later, Ruane took a big hit to his stack in a hand against Josephy. From then on, he mostly trended down, and soon became the fourth-place finisher ($2,576,003).
Nguyen, Vayo, and Josephy continued to play for about half an hour. During that time, Nguyen extended his chip lead, and will return for the final day with more than twice Gordon Vayo's stack.
Play will resume at roughly 5:30 p.m. local time. There is 58:29 remaining on the clock in level 39 (blinds at 600,000/1,200,000 with an ante of 200,000).
