The 2013 World Series of Poker Asia Pacific AU$50,000 High Rollers event has come to an end with German Philipp Gruissem crowned champion!
37 players took to the felt on Saturday with seven of those rebuying to form a prizepool of AU$2,156,000. Only 11 players would return today and the action was quick as Joe Hachem, Jonathan Duhamel and Devan Tang were all sent to the rail before the final table of eight was formed.
Chips were traded around the table before Marvin Rettenmaier would commit holding but would run into the of Joseph Cheong. Cheong spiked a straight on the turn and the remaining six players were in the money. Tom Hall, Elton Tsang and Lo Shing Fung were the next players out before a three-handed battle would become a heads-up match when Paul Phua was outdraw by Gruissem.
The heads up action between Gruissem and Cheong would flow back and forth before Gruissem took a huge lead when he rivered a flush after being outdrawn on the turn. Just a few hands later Cheong’s pair would be rundown by Gruissem’s suited connectors as he was crowned High Rollers Champion and awarded the AU$825,000 first prize.

Joseph Cheong has been eliminated from the High Roller event.
After Philipp Gruissem's double up, players ware pushing all-in nearly every hand without getting called. Gruissem had taken to the habit of squeezing his cards and announcing how many outs he had to call.
He squeezed his first card and Cheong asked how many outs he had.
Gruissem said he wasn't sure, but after squeezing his second card he said, "This is definitely one of those."

The flop gave Gruissem a pair and the turn and on the river gave him the victory.
Cheong will get $511,000 for his runner-up finish while Gruissem will score his biggest cash of ever with $825,000.

Philipp Gruissem bumped it up on the button to 240,000 and Joseph Cheong announced he was all in. Gruissem made the call and pushed out a stack of chips to be at risk.

With Gruissem in the lead, the flop gave Cheong the advantage, but the sweat-tastic would land on the turn to give Gruissem outs with any ace, ten, nine, club or four for a chop.
The dealer burned and turned and delivered the on the river to give Gruissem the double to 4,800,000 as Cheong slipped to 1,800,000 in chips.

After exchanging a few preflop raise wins and the occasional flop, we finally have a major hand here in the AU$50,000 High Rollers.
Philipp Gruissem opened the button to 240,000 and Joseph Cheong pushed all in for for just over 2,400,000. Gruissem instantly made the call and the cards were tabled.

With Cheong trailing, the flop changed little, but it would be the on the turn that would thrust him into the lead. The landed on the river and Cheong moved to 4,800,000 in chips as Gruissem slipped to 1,800,000.

From the button Paul Phua opened to 180,000 only to have Philipp Gruissem move all in from the big blind. Phua - with roughly 1,020,000 behind - went into the tank for close to two minutes uttering a few words here and there. Eventually Phua announced a call and pushed his chips into the pot.

The dealer spread a flop to keep Phua in the lead and with a chance to double back to be right in this game. Unfortunately for Phua, the on the turn would shift the advantage to Gruissem, and as the landed on the river, Phua would have to be content with a AU$325,000 payday as both Gruissem and Cheong are now heads-up for the title.

The post-dinner bustouts transcends all buy-ins.
Philipp Gruissem raised to 120,000 from the button and Lo Shing Fung moved all-in for about 600,000 from the big blind. Gruissem called and Fung's tournament was about to come to an end.

The flop paired Fung's ace, but the turn and river would flush it away. The turn was a and then the river brought a giving Gruissem the flush and the pot.

Lo Shing Fung limped in from the cutoff, as did Elton Tsang from the button before Joseph Cheong completed the small blind and Philipp Gruissem checked his option.
Tsang bet out 125,000 on the flop with only Cheong making the call as the rolled off on the turn. Cheong checked and Tsang slid out a bet of 250,000. Cheong paused for a few moments before moving all in with Tsang making the call for roughly his last 500,000.

From under the gun Tom Hall pushed his last 75,000 into the pot and Joseph Cheong re-raised to 150,000 next to act. Lo Shing Fung made the call to see the dealer spread a flop. Fung moved all in and Cheong quickly folded.

Philipp Gruissem raised to 115,000 from the small blind and Paul Phua thought on the big blind. He counted aloud in his native tongue and eventually moved all-in.

From the button Joseph Cheong opened with a raise only to have Marvin Rettenmaier move all in for just under 300,000 from the small blind. Cheong made the call and the cards were placed on their backs.

With Rettenmaier in the lead, the wasn't the best flop he could have hoped for as Cheong increased his outs by 8. The turn of the gave Cheong the nut straight and also a re-draw to hearts, but it still left Rettenmaier outs to a bigger straight.
Unfortuntely for Rettenmaier the river landed the to send him to the rail as our bubble boy in 7th place.
