Four-time WSOP champion Benny Glaser bagged big on Day 1a
After a year of waiting, Day 1a of World Series of Poker Europe Main Event at King's Resort in Rozvadov, Czech Republic finally kicked off on Friday.
With 514 entries in Day 1a alone, the previous record field (688 in 2021) and the €5,000,000 guarantee will both certainly be shattered. In fact, the guarantee has already been broken after just a single flight.
Amongst the 343 survivors, there could only be one leader and that was Rolando Camardese, who will take an impressive 559,800 chips into Day 2.

There were a large number of big names in the field that bagged a fantastic stack for Day 2, including Benny Glaser (266,800), Kenny Hallaert (230,600), Henrik Hecklen (215,600), Tobias Peters (215,400), Aaron Duczak (209,900), Nacho Barbero (203,100), Victoria Livschitz (191,200), Jason Wheeler (180,500), 2018 WSOP Europe Main Event champion Jack Sinclair (174,800), Fabian Gumz (164,400), and Yuval Bronshtein (155,100).
Other big names who participated and will be heading to Day 2 include Stefan Lehner, Karim Rebei, Julian Herold, Dorian Melchers, Carlo Savinelli, Jessica Teusl, Paulina Loeliger, Felipe Ramos, and Christopher Back.
Those who tried but fell short include Espen Jorstad (pictured above), Fedor Holz, Manig Loeser, and Barny Boatman.
Day 1b will kick off Saturday at noon local time. The players will, once again, play seven 90-minute levels, with 15-minute breaks after each level and a 60-minute break after the conclusion of Level 4. The surviving players from both flights will return to play on Sunday for Day 2, playing another seven 90-minute levels starting at Level 8 with blinds at 800/1,600 with a 1,600 big blind ante.

Players are bagging and tagging, with some tables still concluding their last four hands. As it stands of the 514 who entered today there will be 345 going forward to Day 2 with an average stack around 150,000.

Over on Table 88, Hannes Jeschka opened to 2,500 from the cutoff and Josef Kluzak called from the small blind.
The flop came and it went check-check. The turn brought the and Kluzak put out a bet of 3,500. Jeschka made the call.
The river brought the and Kluzak put out another 8,500. Jeschka immediately smiled and looked over at Kluzak and after a minute, he laughed and said "It feels wrong! I don't believe you!" and Kluzak responded "So make the call!"

Both players checked the turn. Loeliger over-bet 15,000 on the river. After brief contemplation Munar folded and 'Pokerbunny' raked in the pot.

Medhi Chaoui opened to 2,500 from the hijack and was called by Premsyl Rada on the button while Anthony Allan defended his big blind.
The flop came and Allan lead out for 4,200. Chaoui raised to 11,500 and Allan made the call.
On the turn, Chaoui continued for 11,000 and Allan quickly mucked his hand.

Martin Kabrhel bet 2,500 from the cutoff and was called by Mohamed Taabouni in the small blind and Yeonathan Behor in the big blind.
Kabrhel bet 5,000 on the coordinated flop of . Taabouni folded, but Behor moved all in. Kabrhel called for 25,600 putting the Czech at risk.

Over at Table 80, with about 7,000 in the middle on a board, action checked around.
On the turn, action checked to Gal Naim on the button, who put out a bet of 4,000. Michael Strauch called from the small blind.
The river brought the and Naim fired a second time, this time for 13,000. Strauch took about 30 seconds before making the call.
Naim announced "Queen high" and Strauch turned over for a pair of jacks and the win.

Julian Herold bet 2,500 from middle position and was met with a raise to 7,000 from Quoc Bui in the hijack. Action folded back to Herold who made a four-bet of 20,000.
The flop of allowed Herold to continue for 15,000 which was called by Bui. Both players checked the on the turn which put trips on the board.
The completed the board and Herold moved all in to put Bui at risk for 42,000. Bui held his hands behind his head, slumped back in the chair and slithered down until he was almost horizontal. Bui looked at his hand a couple of times to see if his cards have changed which they didn't.
After five minutes in the tank some of his table mates were getting restless, which Bui sensed and called the clock on himself. When the tournament director explained that he had 30 seconds to make a decision Bui looked shocked and tried to negotiate for a 60 second countdown.
With only a second remaining he announced fold and begged Herold to show his hand. Herold turned over and Bui screamed "Yes!" and slammed down his folded to the disbelief of the table. Herold asked "Why didn't you get it in preflop!?" Bui chuckled and is relieved to still be in the tournament.

The record turnout for a WSOPE Main Event is 688. There is little doubt that this number will be smashed by the time Day 2 gets underway.

Christopher Back was the victim of an awful one-outer cooler very early in the day, losing to quads after getting it in good in a set-against-set situation. At one point, Back was reported at under 9,000 chips.
However, the Canadian didn't give up and managed to get himself fully back into the tournament. Over at Table 114, he could be seen celebrating a double up with pocket aces holding against Steven Rohr's pocket nines to get himself back to 61,000.
