On a flop of Fabrice Soulier checked and Phil Hellmuth bet 800. Max Steinberg made the call, as did Soulier.
The turn was the and Soulier checked to Hellmuth who bet 1,500 this time. Steinberg and Soulier both called again.
The river was the and again the action was checked across to Hellmuth who bet 5,800. Steinberg folded and Soulier sighed before giving up his hand.

Germany's Philipp Gruissem just folded face-up after a river shove from New Zealand's David Yan on a board.
The action went check-call from Yan on the flop, Yan led for 4,000 on the turn and Gruissem called and then Yan shoved for 33,100 on the river.
Gruissem had Yan well-covered and went into the tank for around five minutes on the river.
When Gruissem eventually announced the fold, he held onto his cards and didn’t muck as the dealer pushed the pot to Yan.
“You will show if I show?” asked Gruissem.
Yan didn’t respond, he just started stacking the chips.
“We both show?” Gruissem asked again as the dealer tried to retrieve the cards.
When Yan responded no, Gruissem said, “I make a good fold I think,” and he tabled his full house. Yan said nothing and we are sure Gruissem is still pondering his decision.

World Series of Poker Europe bracelet winner Noah Schwartz started today with very little chips and he just raised preflop after which both Thomas Muhlocker and Mark Newhouse got involved. Muhlocker three-bet to 3,100, Newhouse four-bet to 7,500 and the action was folded back to Schwartz who moved all in.
Muhlocker moved all in over the top and Newhouse folded, creating a heads-up showdown.

The board ran out and Schwartz found himself a quick double up to around 33,000 chips. After the hand Phil Ivey made reference to Schwartz’s recent streak of good fortune, and the latter thinks that’s going to continue.
“I’m gonna be Number 1 on the GPI within the next year and a half, let’s book it!” Schwartz said with a smile.
“What is GPI?” Ivey responded.
“It’s a site where they rank players based on their tournament performance?” Schwartz explained.
“Oh really?” Ivey said with a smile.
Schwartz might’ve woken up the beast, because if Ivey finds out he’s currently the number #447 on that list he’ll probably sign up for some more side events during the coming poker festivals. Schwartz’s way to the Number 1 spot, currently held by Marvin Rettenmaier, is a lot shorter as he’s place 25th right now. Is there a prop bet in the making between Schwartz and Ivey? Phil Hellmuth has been crippled in the defence of his WSOPE Main Event title. We arrived to see all the chips in preflop with Hellmuth’s racing against Fabrice Soulier’s
The flop landed to see Soulier flop a set but Hellmuth picked up a flush draw. The turn was the and the river also missed.
Judging from the banter after the hand, it sounded like Soulier was the one who made the call preflop.
“Normally I have aces there, I never have tens,” said Hellmuth. “That’s the best shape you’ve been in against me in your life.”
Hellmuth continued to rant. Most of it was inaudible, but we caught a few snippets.
“You know what makes me really mad? I know you’ll be out in like 40 or 50 players, whereas I would’ve used those chips,” spat Hellmuth.
Hellmuth is now down to just 10,000 with Soulier coasting on 125,000.

On the turn of a board, Matthew O'Donnell was thinking.
He had checked and Aku Joentausta had bet 6,700. O'Donnell made the call to see the on the river before checking a final time.
Joentausta asked how much O'Donnell had left and it looked to be in the region of about 25,000 or so.
With that, the Finn moved all in. O'Donnell took a couple of minutes then made the call.

Joentausta is up to about 120,000. Funnily enough the Finn had no intention of playing the main event until the other night when he won a live satellite. He's probably slightly happier about his decision now.

The tournament was barely underway when Igor Kurganov decided to shake things up a little. Flavien Guenan raised to 1,400 from middle position and Manuel Bevand three-bet to 3,500 from the cutoff. Nicolas Levi went into the tank from the small blind and ultimately he four-bet to 8,500 from this 57,000-chip stack.
Igor Kurganov was the next player to act in the big blind and usually, when there’s a four-bet before it’s even your turn to act, you have quite an easy decision to make.
Well not for Kurganov, who’s known as one of the best players in the world with more than $4.7 million in winnings in the last 24 months.
Kurganov immediately enquired how much Guenan started with and he said it was around 80,000. The German looked over at Bevand who started with around 30,000 and he also gazed at Levi’s chips before five-betting to 15,500.
Guenan tanked for quite a while but eventually he folded and Bevand followed suit with a look of frustration on his face. Levi did not have folding on his mind and moved all in after which Kurganov snap-folded.
Kurganov’s plan failed but at least he sent a message to everyone at the table, he’s not going to give up his chips without resistance. Kurganov still has a 126,000-chip stack while Levi jumps up to around 80,000 chips.

We arrived to at Table 6 to find a massive pot brewing on a board. Shawn Buchanan and Brandon Cantu were involved in the hand and on the river there was already around 30,000 in the pot.
The action was on Cantu and he had slid out enough chips to cover Buchanan’s stack of around 20,000 behind. Buchanan went into the tank and eventually opted to fold.
Interestingly, Cantu was close to winning a bracelet at the 2012 WSOP Europe in the €10,000 Mixed Max where he finished in 2nd place, while Buchanan finished 2nd in that same event at the 2011 WSOP Europe.

On the turn of an board, Nicolas Cardyn saw his 4,800 bet check-raised to 12,225 by Eric Sfez.
The Frenchman made the call to see the on the river where Sfez led out for 22,200. Cardyn tanked and tanked and tanked for nigh-on seven minutes. Cardyn apologised for the time he was taking.
At one point he looked as though he was going to make the call but with one hand on the chips, he focused on Sfez hoping for a reaction but none was forthcoming from his opponent.
Eventually Cardyn folded.

Five minutes ago, Dan Kelly started the day with 36,000 chips and high hopes. He now has no chips and a free day in Paris after his elimination from the Main Event.
We arrived to see Kelly bet 4,100 from the button on a flop of His opponent, Vladimir Troyanovski, check-called and then tapped the table again when the appeared on the turn.
Kelly bet again, this time for 7,700, before Troyanovski declared himself all in to put Kelly to a decision for his tournament. Kelly thought briefly before sliding in his last 17,000 or so with for overcards with the nut flush draw but he trailed Troyanovski who had got particularly lucky on the turn with his

Two Day 1 flights are in the record books and now we are back for Day 2 of the World Series of Poker Europe Main Event.
Entry is still open to those keen to lay down €10,450 and play in the WSOPE Main Event, but at this point there have been 372 entrants. We will have confirmation of the prize pool and all that important stuff once registration is closed and that information is made available.
Exactly 228 players survived through the combined Day 1 flights and at this point it is Ludovic Lacay who has the chip lead and sets the benchmark with a stack of 163,075.
Plenty of the biggest names in poker are still alive and in contention to take it all down including Phil Ivey, Daniel Negreanu, Barry Greenstein and too many more to name. The reigning champion of this event Phil Hellmuth is also still alive and looking to make history with back-to-back victories.
There are six levels scheduled for Day 2, with 20-minute breaks after every level and a 90-minute break after four levels.
