They just keep trying to bluff Phil Hellmuth. At least that’s what he keeps telling everyone. Yet they keep showing up with real hands which is throwing a spanner in the works for the defending champion.
We arrived on a board of with Hellmuth deep in the tank against the all-in bet from Max Steinberg. The amount was 24,000 and Hellmuth was running through all the scenarios in his head.
“I know you’re one of the guys that will bluff it off,” muttered Hellmuth, before eventually plonking out his chips to make the call.
Steinberg opened and Hellmuth dropped his head before showing The river was the and Steinberg doubled up to 85,000.
“Nice hand,” sighed Hellmuth as he drops back to 30,000.

Shawn Buchanan is often touted as one of the best poker players without a WSOP bracelet. He got close at the WSOP Europe in 2011 and so certainly has some history with this tournament series. He is doing quite well here on Day 2 of the Main Event.
We recently arrived at Buchanan’s table to find him and Daniel Weinman involved in a hand on the river of a board. There was over 20,000 already in the pot and Weinman had checked to Buchanan, who bet 12,200. Weinman went into the tank and eventually called.
At showdown, Buchanan showed and Weinman quickly mucked.
Buchanan is now up to around 100,000 in chips.

Phil Ivey just raised to 2,300 and Thomas Muhlocker called from the big blind. The flop brought and Muhlocker check-called 3,000. On the turn the hit and both players checked. The river brought the and again the action was checked.
Muhlocker showed and Ivey mucked, leaving himself with 18,000 chips. Mulhocker sits around 35,000 and even for him a double up would make a big difference.

He moved all in over the top of Sergio Aido's 2,100 raise and the Spaniard made the call.

Noah Schwartz raised to 2,400 from early position and two players called before the action got to Sam Greenwood on the button. Greenwood three-bet to 8,000 and both blinds folded quickly before Schwartz moved all in. The two called opted out and Greenwood called right away.
Schwartz wasn’t too happy as he flipped up but he still had plenty of outs against Greenwood’s The board ran out and Schwartz doubled up to around 48,000 chips. Greenwood still has 110,000 chips left after losing this coin flip.

Daniel Laidlaw is one of the few Aussies left in the WSOP Europe Main Event and he has had a good day at the felt. He started the day with around 50,000 in chips and now has up over 100,000.
The most recent hand that went Laidlaw’s way saw the Aussie deal the fatal blow to Jonas Lauck. It was all in preflop, with Lauck short and holding against Laidlaw’s The board ran out and the pot went to Laidlaw.
Laidlaw recently finished 6th in Event of the 2013 WSOP Europe and will be looking to make more impact here in the Main Event.

Shawn Buchanan just bet 4,400 on a board and Jeffrey Yarchever called him in position. The player in the blinds folded and on the river the hit. This time Buchanan quickly bet 7,400 and Yarchever announced a call right away.

“Yeah, well played,” said David “Devil Fish” Ulliot as he left the tournament area. “I always lose to the monkeys.”
We arrived at Ulliot’s final hand on the turn of a board, with Ulliot having bet 7,000 after Patrick Shuhl had checked. Back on Shuhl and he raised it up to 17,000.
Ulliot had just under 30,000 total and went into the tank.
“If I fold, will you show?” Ulliot asked Shuhl.
When Shuhl didn’t respond, Ulliot went back into the tank.

According to Ulliot, the player had called a three-bet preflop out of position and Ulliot let everyone know that this person did not know how to play poker.

Right after the break Martin Finger actually did wake up with a hand and knocked out Abdelkader Benhalima. In the previous level the German pulled off a big bluff but just now he knocked out Benhalima with against in a pot worth around 80,000 after the board came

Martin Finger’s known for his aggressive playing style, but perhaps the French players are not too aware of this. Finger has an EPT and Super High Roller victory under his belt and he did not get those by folding. Just now Finger showed why he is one of the hottest players in poker right now, and his two French opponents will probably discuss the following hand at length during the break.
Because we arrived when the river card was already out we waited for the break to start and at that point Martin Finger was kind enough to explain to us what happened.
Finger raised preflop and three players decided to make the call. The flop brought and Finger bet 4,500 getting two players to bite this time. On the turn the hit and Finger bet 14,500 and once again both his opponents called him.
The river brought the and Finger moved all in covering both his opponents.
The first player to make us his mind about his tournament life, Abdelkader Benhalima, took about three minutes but ultimately he folded his cards. The next player to act, Jerome Huge, quickly folded and Finger showed his right away.
Benhalima exploded and snapped a lot of angry sounding French words toward Huge who seemed to be defending himself.
A French colleagues explained that Benhalima was angry at Huge for calling and making the decision that much harder for him to call with someone left to act behind him.
Finger was all smiles throughout this progress, while Benhalima kept going on about the hand to everyone that wanted to hear it. Huge was not appreciative of Benhalima’s manners and verbally fought back at him while the break was well underway.
Finger now sits on 170,000 chips while Benhalima has 47,000 chips left and Huge has 110,000 in front of him.

Just at the end of the last break, this hand happened.
There were two bets out, a bet of 9,000 from Max Steinberg in position and next to him, a bet of 24,000 from Ludovic Lacay. Lacay had three-bet an early position open Steinberg had put in a cold four-bet. The initial raiser folded and Lacay five-bet to 24,000.
This sent Steinberg into the tank for some time, eventually he folded and Lacay showed a
“Try that against me buddy,” said Phil Hellmuth.
“You? You wish!” replied Lacay.
“I am at the height of my powers,” continued Hellmuth, apparently having convinced himself that he was some sort of evil wizard.
Lacay is on 220,000.

Kevin Song’s won't be matching his 3rd place finish from WSOPE Event #5 as his run in the Main Event is over.
Song three-bet preflop, before firing another 8,500 on the flop of Gereon Sowa made the call and the hit the turn. Song released another 10,500 before Sowa moved all in. Song shrugged and called off his last 7,000 with but Sowa opened for trip aces.
Song would need a king but the river was salt in the wound to see Song sent to the rail as Sowa is now one of the chip leaders with a stack of 160,000 chips.
