Event #32: $5,000 No-Limit Hold'em 6-Six Handed

Erick Lindgren was arguably the best poker player in the world in 2008. He had just won his first World Series of Poker gold bracelet, cashed five times, made three final tables, and earned more than $1.3 million. Since then, Lindgren cashed only 12 times over the next four years at the WSOP. While his personal troubles have been well documented around the poker world in the last year or so, Lindgren is on the rebound both personally (In addition to getting married in 2011 to fellow poker pro Erica Schoenberg, the couple had a son later that year) and professionally. Entering Event #32, the $5,000 No-Limit Hold'em (Six-Handed), Lindgren already had four cashes in the 2013 WSOP. After his dominating performance today, Lindgren earned his second gold bracelet.

Day 3 began with 14 players remaining from the starting field of 516. Lindgren began the day seventh in chips and doubled up immediately through Jonathan Little. From there, Lindgren was relentless and when the final table of six was reached, he was on top of the chip counts.

Ryan D'Angelo exited in sixth place and he was followed to the payout desk by Vasile Buboi, who departed in fifth place. Both were eliminated by Connor Drinan, but after he doubled up Lee Markholt for a second time, Drinan was sent to the rail in fourth place.

Jonathan Little was eliminated by Lindgren in third place, setting up a heads-up duel between Lindgren and Markholt. Though he began with almost a 4-to-1 chip lead, Markholt battled back. Over the course of the 70-hand heads-up battle, Lindgren surrendered the chip lead briefly on a few occasions. However, he battled back and sealed the deal with none other than pocket aces on the final hand.

This marks Lindgren's second six-figure score in the last month, having finished second place at the WPT Championship in May for $650,275. If there were any doubts whether Lindgren was back as one of poker's most elite then, there certainly aren't now. Hand #200: Lindgren opened with a button raise to 120,000, and Markholt flatted to see the     flop. Both players checked the flop, and the turn came  . Markholt led out for a bet of 135,000, and that forced Lindgren's cards into the muck.

Hand #201: Markholt raised to 120,000, Lindgren called, and the flop came    . Lindgren then check-folded to a bet of 125,000.

Hand #202: Lindgren limped in on the button, Markholt checked, and the     hit the board on the flop. Markholt led out for 100,000, and Lindgren popped it to 235,000, forcing Markholt to release.

Hand #195: Lee Markholt raised to 120,000 on the button, Erick Lindgren called from the big blind, and the flop came down    . Lindgren led out for 110,000, Markholt called, and the   turn fell. Lindgren bet 185,000 and Markholt folded.

Hand #196: Erick Lindgren raised to 120,000 on the button and Lee Markholt called from the big blind. The flop was     and Markholt check-called 130,000 from Lindgren. The   turn fell and Markholt check-folded to a bet of 240,000 from Lindgren.

Hand #197: Lee Markholt limp-folded his button after Lindgren popped it to 210,000 from the big blind.

Hand #198: Erick Lindgren limped the button, Lee Markholt checked his option, and the flop was    . Markholt check-called 75,000 to see the   turn where he led for 110,000, winning the pot right there.

Hand #199: Erick Lindgren received a walk.

Hand #190: Lindgren raised to 120,000 on the button, and Markholt mucked.

Hand #191: Markholt raised to 120,000 on the button, Lindgren flatted, and the flop came    . Lindgren checked, Markholt bet 120,000, and Lindgren called. On the   turn, Lindgren checked a second time, and Markholt moved 245,000 into the middle. Lindgen tanked for thirty seconds or so, before opting to simply smooth call. When the   completed the board on the river, Lindgren checked it to Markholt, and he tapped the table as well. Lindgren opened up the    for two pair, while Markholt showed down the    for a missed flush draw.

Hand #192: Lindgren folded his button, giving Markholt a walk.

Hand #193: Markholt opened for 120,000 on the button, Lindgren flatted, and the flop came    . After Lindgren checked, Markholt bet 80,000 to win the pot.

Hand #194: Erick limped in on the button, and Markholt checked his option. The flop came     and Markholt check-called a bet to bring the   on the turn. A bet of 135,000 was enough for the pot to be pushed to Lindgren.

Hand #184: Erick Lindgren raised to 120,000 on the button and Lee Markholt called to see a flop of    . Markholt led out for 120,000 and Lindgren folded.

Hand #187: Lee Markholt limped on the button and Erick Lindgren checked his option. The flop fell     and Lindgren check-called 100,000 from Markholt. The   turn was checked by both, as was the   river. Lindgren tabled a straight,   , and won the pot.

Hand #188: Erick Lindgren raised to 120,000 on the button and Lee Markholt defended. The flop came down     and Markholt check-called 125,000. Both checked the   turn and   river. Markholt took down the pot with   .

Hand #189: Lee Markholt raised to 120,000 on the button and Lindgren defended. The flop fell     and Lindgren led out for 120,000, getting Markholt to fold.

Hand #179: Markholt raised the button to 120,000, and Lindgren flatted to take a flop of    . After Lindgren tapped the table, Markholt bet 140,000 and the pot was pushed his way.

Hand #180: Lindgren raised to 120,000 on the button, and Markholt called, bringing on a flop of    . Both plakyers checked and the   was the turn card. Markholt led out for 140,000 on fourth street, and another pot was sent in his direction.

Hand #181: Ramping up the aggression with momentum on his side, Markholt raised to 120,000 on the button, and Lindgren flatted. The flop came     and Lindgren checked to Markholt, who bet 110,000. After Lindgren flatted, the   arrived on the turn. Both players checked fourth street, and the   fell on the river. When Lindgren checked for a third time, Markholt pushed 245,000 into the middle. Lindgren appeared to be unhappy with this development, and he asked Markholt if he had a club. Taking a last look at his hand, Lindgren then mucked his holding. Markholt flashed the   as he dragged yet another pot.
