Wasserson Hero-Calls River

Eric Wasserson limped under the gun and it folded to Martin Nielsen who checked on the button.

The flop came     and Wasserson led out for 40,000, which Nielsen came along. The   hit the turn and Wasserson slowed down with a check to Nielsen who bet out 80,000. Wasserson made the call and the   completed the board.

Wasserson checked again and Nielsen sized to 150,000. Wasserson went deep in the tank, but after over a minute, made the call. Nielsen announced "good call" and Wasserson tabled    to take down the pot with only top pair.

Yu Four-Bets Nielsen

Hong Wei Yu opened to 87,000 from the cutoff but then Martin Nielsen three-bet him to 250,000.

Yu did not think this was quite enough and he put in the cold four-bet to 587,000.

Nielsen thought about it for a couple of seconds but then decided to lay it down.

"Show the bluff!" Eric Wasserson shouted, but Yu did not show.

Ermin Finds Another Double Up

In a four-way limped pot on a flop of    , Eric Wasserson bet out 40,000 from under the gun and Ivan Ermin raised to 305,000 next to act. The rest of the table folded back to Wasserson who moved all in, covering the 664,000 total for Ermin, who quickly made the call.

Ermin flopped bottom set, but would need to dodge the straight and flush draw for Wasserson. The board ran out    and Ermin improved to a full house to score the big double up and even out the stacks.

Ace-Queen Good For Wasserson

On a flop of    , Eric Wasserson and Hong Wei Yu checked to Martin Nielsen on the button who bet 60,000.

Wasserson then check-raised to 215,000 and Yu got out of the way while Nielsen made the call to see the   on the turn.

Wasserson kept up the pressure by betting another 250,000 and after almost using a time bank, Nielsen made the call once more.

The river came the   and Wasserson checked to Nielsen who took a few seconds but eventually checked back.

"Ace-queen?" Wasserson announced as he tabled   , hoping it was good.

"Ace-queen is good," Nielsen replied as he sent his cards into the muck and the largest pot of the day was shipped to Wasserson.

Ermin Scores Double Up Off Yu

Hong Wei Yu limped in from under the gun and it folded to Ivan Ermin on the button who moved all in for 412,000. Yu quickly called to put Ermin at risk and the cards were on their backs.

Ermin was in need of help against the better ace for Yu, and when the board ran out      , it was the trip jacks for Ermin that hit to score him a full double up off Yu.

Yu Bets Turn

On a flop of    , Eric Wasserson led out for 35,000 from middle position and Hong Wei Yu called from the button to see the turn  .

Yu then decided to lead out for 90,000 and Wasserson looked slightly confused as he thought for a bit.

"Ok, you got it," he said as he slid his cards into the muck.

"Two-pair!" Yu announced but just showed the   as he was pushed the pot.

Nielsen Bets Turn To Take One

Martin Nielsen limped in from under the gun and it folded to Hong Wei Yu on the button who made it 67,000 to go. Nielsen made the call and the flop came    .

Both players checked their options to the   turn. Nielsen took the lead with a bet of 50,000, and took down the pot when Yu let his cards go.

Big Sweat for Ermin

After two limps, Ivan Ermin moved all in from the cutoff and Martin Nielsen made the call from under the gun to put him at risk.

In most situations, the players will chop this hand up, but the flop of     gave Nielsen a freeroll as he had nut backdoor spade outs.

The turn   gave him a full-on flush draw and Ermin had to sweat the river to avoid a spade but luckily for him, it came the   and they chopped it up.

"Hey, I think you made 16,000," Eric Wasserson chimed in as they took their bets back.

Big Draw No Good

On a heads-up flop of    , Eric Wasserson checked to Hong Wei Yu who bet 85,000. Wasserson made the call and the two went to the turn  .

Both players decided to check and saw the river fall the  . Wasserson checked once more and Yu fired for 160,000.

"Ahhh, was a big turn for me, too," Wasserson sighed as he tossed    into the muck to award Yu the pot.

Eric Wasserson limped in from under the gun and Ivan Ermin raised to 65,000 next to act. The rest of the table got out of the way and Wasserson made the call.

The flop came     and Wasserson check-called a bet of 38,000 from Ermin. On the   turn both players checked to the   river.

Wasserson took the lead with a bet of 60,000 and Ermin went deep in the tank. After using a time bank card, Ermin let it go and the pot was sent to Wasserson without showdown.

John Juanda open-shoved under the gun and then Eric Wasserson moved all in behind him for much more. The other players quickly got out of the way and the cards were tabled.

"Uh oh," Juanda chuckled as he realized what he was up against.

The flop came     to give Wasserson top pair, but it also gave Juanda an inside straight draw to a jack.

Unfortunately for him, the board ran out    and the poker Hall of Famer was eliminated in fifth place. He stood up and shook everyone's hand and wished them the best of luck before he made his way to the payout desk.

Ermin Takes First Pot of The Day

Hong Wei Yu limped from under the gun and John Juanda made the call in middle position. Ivan Ermin checked his option on the button and the flop fanned out    .

Yu led out for 35,000 and both Juanda and Ermin called. The   hit the turn and all three players checked to the   river. Yu checked and Juanda sized to 65,000. Ermin made the call and Yu got out of the way.

Juanda tabled    for a queen-high straight, but was no good when Ermin rolled over    for the king-high straight to scoop the first pot.

Final Day of $10,000 Short Deck Championship Kicks off at 1 PM

Welcome to the last and final day of Event #93: $10,000 Short Deck Championship at the 2023 World Series of Poker here at Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas.

A total of 106 entries joined over two action-packed days of short deck to create a prize pool of $895,300 with the winner taking home $270,160 and the prestigious gold bracelet.

After the dust settled on Day 2, it was Martin Nielsen who bagged the chip lead with a stack of 2,007,000. Close on his heels is Eric Wasserson (1,705,000) and Hong Wei Yu (1,596,000) who round out the top-three.

Also returning to battle are Ivan Ermin (743,000) and five-time bracelet winner and poker Hall of Famer John Juanda (332,000), who came into the final table as the chip leader but ran into a set-over-set cooler against Wasserson to lose most of his stack.

The final five will play down to a winner in the Horseshoe Blue section at 1p.m. local time with antes resuming at 6,000 with 23:27 left on the current level. The levels will continue to be 60-minutes in length and there will be a 15-minute break every two levels. There is no dinner break scheduled, but depending on the pace of play, one could be added.
