Jonathan Cohen

Layne Flack continued his aggression by making it 45,000 preflop from the button. Jonathan Cohen from the big blind made the call and both players were granted access to a     flop. It was here that Cohen check-called a 50,000 bet from Flack.

The   on the turn saw a check-raise from Cohen who made it 140,000. Flack made the call and saw an   land on the river. Cohen was not going to check any more and fired out a 425,000 bet which was called by Flack after a few moments of contemplation. Cohen showed    for a king high flush, while all Flack could do is stare in slight disbelief as his chips were scooted away from him.

Brandon Schaefer doubles

Layne Flack got the better of better of Brandon Schaefer in one three-bet pot, but things went a little differently the very next hand when Flack three-bet him again.

Schaefer opened to 46,000 and was three-bet to 120,000 by Flack. The last hand Schaefer called before check-folding on a flop. This time he moved all-in for 818,000. Everybody jumped out of their seats as Flack called.

Schaefer:
Flack:   .

"Just one black nine," pleaded a calm sounding Schaefer.

The board ran       to make Schaefer a full house. He got what he asked for!

Layne Flack

It seems like every other hand Layne Flack is dictating the action preflop. This recent hand was no different when we found him making it 45,000 preflop. Adam Kagin was the only one willing to pay the price from the big blind and both players were witness to a     flop. It was here that both players checked.

A   on the turn brought a repeat of action with both players knuckling the felt for a check. The   river though saw a 50,000 bet from Flack and a quick call from Kagin. Flack immediately flipped over    for a rivered set of sixes while Kagin mucked his hole cards.

Losing three players on the trot like that has meant our remaining players are fairly deep right now. We're not going to see much three-bet shoving for a while.

Adam Kagin is our shortest stack and still has over 30 big blinds.

David Chase - 5th place

Jon Cohen is on a roll and has found a lucky hand. He just took care of David Chase to make this a four-handed affair.

The action folded to Cohen on the button and he opened to 33,000 and called when Chase shoved from the small blind for another 277,000.

Cohen:
Chase:

The board ran      . Cohen's lucky hand flopped a set, turned a sweat, and rivered a full house.

Cohen had a ton of small denomination chips after this hand. The break's coming up in a few minutes and we'll verify his and all the other player's chip counts then. His rush could well have taken all the way to the chip lead.

Michael Corson - 6th place

With players taking turns stealing the blinds and antes we didn't expect anything different when Jonathan Cohen opened for 33,000. Action folded around to Michael Corson who moved all in for around 200,000. Cohen called immediately and flipped over   . Corson countered by flipping over   , which at the moment wasn't up to snuff.

Three cards were placed in the middle of the felt for the flop and they came out    . Corson needed an ace, and an ace badly if he wanted to continue his run. A   on the turn, and a   gave the hand to Cohen, who's kings were best.

Birthday hangover for Jeff Madsen

Jeff Madsen's dream of winning his third bracelet, and first for six years, had ended. He'd shoved three times in recent orbits, and on the fourth time he was called.

The action folded around to Jon Cohen on the button and he raised to 33,000. Madsen was in the big blind and moved all-in for 264,000. Call.

Madsen:
Cohen:

Madsen winced when he was called but must've been happy not to be a big dog in the hand.

The board ran       to miss Madsen's over cards, despite picking up a draw to the world on the turn.

Recently short stacked Jeff Madsen has moved all in three times in the past couple of orbits, but has received no takers and continues to take down a handful of blinds and antes.

Play has slowed down in the past fifteen minutes or so. The blinds and antes seemed to be passed around one hand after another.

Michael Corson opened a recent hand by making it 27,000 in early position. It looked as though he might take it down, but Jeff Madsen in the big blind had something to say about that and completed the call.

After a     flop was shown and both players checked. A   on the turn brought a 44,000 bet from the sleeping giant, Madsen. A call was made by Corson and we were off to the river. With the   planting down for the river we saw Madsen check-call a bet of 69,000 for Corson. Corson flipped over    for two pair eights and aces, which were seemingly good enough as Madsen mucked his hand.

Brandon Schaefer and Layne Flack are the two chip leaders and have mostly, until just now, avoided each other today, which is understandable.

Schaefer opened to 30,000 from the button and Flack defended to see a     flop. Schaefer continued for 35,000 and Flack check-called to the   turn. Schaefer had another barrel lined up, and the 90,000 did the trick as Flack check-folded.

Brandon Steven - 8th place

Brandon Steven started out a recent hand by opening to 27,000 from middle position. David Chase reraised to 75,000 in the cutoff. It then folded around to Layne Flack in the big blind who threw in 212,000. Steven immediately went all in, and Chase folded. Lack completed the call and put Steven at risk.

Flack:

Once the     flop was exposed Flack took the advantage. The   on the turn helped no one, and the   on the river sent Steven packing.

Justin Schwartz - 9th place

Justin Schwartz folded his big blind to action and had 51,000 remaining when open shoved from the small blind the next hand. Brandon Steven was in the big blind and called.

Steven:

The board ran       to end Schwartz's dreams. Steven added those much needed chips to his stack.

It looked as though we would have a limped pot after Justin Schwartz, and Jeff Madsen came in for the minimum. Layne Flack even completed his small blind; all that was left was for Adam Kagin to check. Instead, Kagin moved all in for 225,000. Schwartz was visibly disgruntled about this change in events, and after a few moments he moved all in. Madsen and Flack got out of the way and cards were tabled.

Kagin:
Scwartz:

The dealer then plopped down a     flop giving Kagin the advantage. A   on the turn and a   on the river sealed the deal and once again Kagin doubled up.

Jonathan Cohen has moved further clear in third spot after he won a pot versus Jeff Madsen.

Madsen opened to 26,000 from the under-the-gun seat and was called by Cohen (cut-off) and Brandon Steven (small blind).

Madsen continued for 42,000 on the     flop and was only called by Cohen. Pot control was the name of the game from here on in as both players checked the    turn and river.

"Ace-king," said Madsen. Cohen opened    for full house and took the pot.

Action folded around to Layne Flack who pushed forward 28,000 for a raise from the button. Adam Kagin then moved all in from the small blind. Kagin was fairly short stacked and pushed for 109,000. Flack completed the call and we were off to the races.

Once the cards were flipped over, the tournament director announced "we have a classic match up" much to the delight of the crowd and players. The dealer spread a     flop. The turn brought a   giving Flack a straight as a potential out. The river blanked out as the   fell in its place. Kagin has now doubled up and is almost at 250,000.
