Brian Smith reacts to seeing his pocket 6's are behind his opponent's pocket 7's.

Brian Smith was second to act and moved all in for 380,000 and action passed to Jonathan Lane on the button. Lane measured out the call, thought about it and then slid in the call. The blinds released and the hands were tabled.

Lane:
Smith:

The board ran           and Lane's pair held, sending Smith to the cashier's cage for a payout.

Brandon Meyers is clearly more at home in the no limit rounds than in the limit ones, and with some serious limit sharks at the table, he's using no limit to further his chip lead and assert his dominance. He's raising nearly every hand and three-betting those when he can't open. A few times he's been played back at and folded, but most hands add to his stack.

In a recent hand, he kept up his usual style but happened to have a real starting hand. Brian Smith opened to 47,000. Not unusually, Meyers reraised to 135,000 on the button. Smith called and checked the     flop. Uncharacteristically, Meyers didn't c-bet. The   put the action back on Smith, who bet 160,000. Meyers called. It was back to check-check on the   river. Smith announced "king high," which prompted Meyers to turn over his winning nut no pair,   . The chip leader is now over 2 million.

Saturday, July 2, 2011 7:42 PM Local Time

Jonathan Lane opened the pot for 48,000 in the cutoff and Brian Smith called from the big blind. The flop came      , Smith checked and Lane bet 55,000. Smith took a moment before raising to 135,000. Lane reraised all in for 421,000 and before the dealer could complete counting Lane's stack Smith folded.

Brandon Meyers opened with a raise and Jonathan Lane three bet from the button. Action folded around and Meyers called. The flop came       and Meyers check-called a bet from Lane. The turn came   and Meyers check-raised Lane and got a call. The river fell  , Myers bet and Lane tanked. After a few moments Lane called and Meyers tabled     for a full house. Lane mucked his hand and moved on to the next hand.

Matt Matros check-raised Brian Smith on a     flop, and Brian Smith chose to call. Smith called a big bet on the   turn. The river was the  , and Matros bet again. He knew it was bad news when Smith raised, but he called the last bet to see that Smith had rivered a set with   . Ouch.

With that blow, Matros is down to the vicinity of 300,000. smith is up to 900,000.

Nearly every hand represents significant chip movement, but here are the counts at this second:

Matt Matros850,000120,000
Brian Smith750,000-310,000

Jonathan Lane426,000-104,000

One hand after winning a pot from Brandon Meyers, Matt Hawrilenko raised his small blind, and Brian Smith defended his big. Hawrilenko bet the     flop, and Meyers called. It went bet-call again on the   turn. Both players checked the   river, and Hawrilenko's    took the pot with third pair. The limit hold'em expert has used this round to pull himself back to 725,000.

Saturday, July 2, 2011 6:16 PM Local Time

Back to limit hold'em. Matt Hawrilenko raised on the button, and Brandon Meyers called in the big blind. Meyers check-called all three streets of a       board. Meyers took the pot with an ace when Hawrilenko could only show jack-high.

A few hands later, Hawrilenko got most of this chips back. Meyers raised, and Hawrilenko three bet from the big blind. Meyers called. It was Hawrilenko's turn to check-call on the     flop and again on the   turn. He checked one more time after the   river put a four-flush out there. Meyers checked behind. Neither had a club, and Hawrilenko's    won the pot.

Saturday, July 2, 2011 6:12 PM Local Time

Brandon Myers open rained in the cutoff and Matt Matros three bet from the small blind. Myers called and the flop fell      . Matros bet, Meyers raised and Matros called. The turn came   and Matros check-called a bet. The river came  , Matros checked and Meyers checked with force.

Matros tabled     and Meyers sighed, rechecked his hole cards and then tossed them back to the dealer.

Brandon Meyers raised, and in the small blind, Matt Matros three-bet to 105,000. It didn't take very long for Meyers to move his monster stack all in, and it took even less time for Matros to fold.

Saturday, July 2, 2011 6:00 PM Local Time

Matt Hawrilenko raised to 36,000 under the gun, and Brandon Meyers, who doesn't like to sit out of many pots, called on the button. Hawrilenko fired 45,000 at the     flop, and Meyers called. The   on the turn didn't slow down Hawrilenko, who slid out a pink stack worth 100,000. Meyers thought a bit before grumpily flashing the   and tossing his cards in the direction of the dealer.

Saturday, July 2, 2011 5:49 PM Local Time

Matt Hawrilenko opened for 36,000 from under the gun, Jonathan Lane called from the small blind and Matt Matros moved all in from the big blind. Hawrilenko called and Lane folded.

Showdown
Matros:
Hawrilenko:

The board ran           and Matros' kings held and doubled him to over 700,000 and Hawrilenko has slid to 480,000.

Matt Matros was on life support. He got his last bet in on a     flop with    for middle pair. Brandon Meyers held    and needed to hit. The   turn was a brick, and the   river gave Matros two pair and more than 200,000.

The players realized that the clock had rolled over to the next level already, meaning that hand probably should have been no limit. On one of the first no limit hands they played, Matros moved all in for 209,000, and Meyers took another shot at eliminating him with a call out of the big blind. Matros had the lead with    against Meyers'   . The       board was clean, and Matros doubled to 442,000.
