Timoshenko continued his strategy of raising on his button, this time making it 80,000 to go. Cody continued his own strategy of three-betting Timoshenko's button raises, popping it to 180,000. Timoshenko finally decided to look Cody up and made the call.

Flop:

Cody splashed 195,000 chips into the middle and Timoshenko flat called, bringing a turn card of  .

The 22-year old British sensation did not relent and fired 245,000 at his opponent, eliciting a round of song from the crowd. Timoshenko decided to come along and made the call.

River:

The pot contained 1,240,000 at this point and Cody slowed down, tapping the table for a check. Timoshenko did the same and Cody showed down the    for seven-high. Timoshenko's    and two pair were good and he dragged the largest pot of the match his way.

The Brits remained undeterred, however, and continued to hoot and holler in support of their countryman.

Friday, June 3, 2011 9:26 PM Local Time

Yevgeniy Timoshenko raised to 80,000 from the button, and Jake Cody had that three-betting look on his face. After a moment, he did just that, flicking 185,000 chips into the pot. It was a bit of a small three-bet, but it got the job done just as well. Timoshenko gave it just a quick look before mucking.

Yevgeniy Timoshenko Takes the Pot

On the button, Timoshenko raised to 80,000 and Cody continued his aggressive strategy by three-betting to 190,000. This play prompted Timoshenko to announce "all-in" and Cody instantly mucked his cards.

Timoshenko offered a smile to the Brit-heavy crowd, showing that he has not been rattled by the raucous atmosphere inside the final table arena.

The Brit made the call and after the   fell on the river both players checked it down. Cody showed down the    and Timoshenko mucked, sending a large pot in Cody's direction. This hand propelled Cody into a slight chip lead after he had fallen behind early.

Yevgeniy Timoshenko opened to 60,000, and once again, Jake Cody three-bet to 170,000. It's the second consecutive time that a Timoshenko button hand has gone this way, and for the second consecutive time, he folded with just a cursory look.

Timoshenko is still in front by about 400,000 chips. He's got about 1.8 million on the table, while Cody has about 1.4 million. Both men still have 3.2 million chips in the rack.

After Cody made it 65,000 to go on the button, Timoshenko three-bet to 185,000 and the Brit asked for the exact amount of the raise. Cody then decided to four-bet to 315,000 and Timoshenko paused for more than two minutes or so in reflection.

The calm and cool Timoshenko eventually slid out a tower of chips to raise the action to 585,000. Cody surrendered in the face of this pressure play and Timoshenko jumped out to a sizable chip advantage.

Jake Cody

Yevgeniy Timoshenko raised to 48,000, his standard raise at this level. Jake Cody responded with a three-bet to 145,000, and a darty-eyed Timoshenko spent a few moments considering before flicking the call into the pot.

The flop came out      , and Cody knocked the table. Timoshenko stared blankly at the board for another 30 seconds or so, then checked it back. The   landed on fourth street, and Cody put out a delayed continuation bet of 177,000. Timoshenko studied, then called.

There was more than 600,000 in the pot as the dealer put the   down on the river. It was a blank, and Cody wasn't slowing down now. He gathered all 860,000 of his chips and slid them across the imaginary betting line, overbetting the pot and putting the decision on Timoshenko. He made it rather quickly, folding without incident to let Cody chip back into this match.

He's just about 200,000 chips behind Timoshenko now.

He must mean football.

Friday, June 3, 2011 8:37 PM Local Time

A soccer match has broken out in the Amazon Room of the Rio as Jake Cody's contingent of British well-wishers have begun to serenade Yevgeniy Timoshenko with derisive chants, whoops and songs. At one point a man thrust both of his shoes high in the air, waving them at the table in an attempt to distract the stoic Ukrainian.

Timoshenko checked for a third time and stared intently at the Brit, who responded by betting 145,000 chips. As is his style, Timoshenko was very deliberate and thought things over for a minute or so before deciding to raise to 435,000.

This move clearly surprised Cody and he sipped from a bottle of water while contemplating his next move. The pot contained 800,000 chips at this point and Cody was reluctant to surrender such a large prize this early in the contest. Eventually Cody mucked his hand, however, and Timoshenko staked himself to an early advantage.

Both men have chosen to take just one bullet, 1.6 million chips to start this match. They each have 3.2 million in the rack.

The audience sits in stunned silence.
