A player in middle position opened with a raise and it folded around to Gabe Kaplan who called from the big blind. The flop came    . Kaplan checked, his opponent bet 1,050, and Kaplan called.

The turn brought the  , pairing the board. Kaplan checked again, and his opponent tossed out a single orange (5,000) chip, announcing a bet of 2,200. Kaplan sat for a moment, then set out his remaining stack of chips -- about 11,500 -- in front of him.

"All in?" asked the dealer of Kaplan. Kind of an obvious answer to that one. Kaplan chuckled and held his hands open to indicate that he didn't have anything else to put in the middle.

"Oh, all right," he said with a grin, and started to reach in his pocket to find more to bet. The players and dealer all laughed.

Meanwhile, Kaplan's opponent was in the tank, and after a couple of minutes let his hand go. Kaplan has chipped up to nearly 17,000.

We walked up to the table of Jennifer Leigh to catch her in the middle of a big pot with the board reading      . Leigh was first to act on the river and she tossed 9,000 into the pot.

Her opponent gave the decision a little thought, but perhaps the reputation of "Jennicide" being an aggressive, online player has spread, as her opponent made the call with just    for third pair. It was good as Leigh showed   . She slips back to 75,000.

On the flop of    , four players were involved. First up was Greg Mueller and he checked. The next player fired 2,300 and the player after him folded. Carter Phillips was next in line and fold before action moved back to Mueller. He made the call.

The turn card was the   and Mueller checked. His opponent fired 4,000 and Mueller folded. He's down to 12,000 in chips.

After a player limped under the gun, Carter Gill raised to 1,850 from the cutoff. The button, small blind, big blind and under the gun all made the call.

When the flop came out    , action checked to Gill who bet 3,600. Everyone folded except the under the gun player who raised to 8,600. Gill thought about it for a moment, mucked    face-up and said, "You probably have a set."

Gill is still sitting pretty with 135,000.

There was about 9,000 in the pot when we saw the dealer put the river down on a board of          . Isaac Baron was the one doing the betting, and he fired out 4,300 when the board was complete. Michael Reed was his lone opponent, and Reed tank-called with pocket threes. It was good; Baron showed     for the miss.

Baron has started his day well, but that little hit knocks him back to about 120,000.

On a flop of      , David Oppenheim shoved for his last 8,500 chips. His opponent called with    , and Oppenheim's     was going to need some help to stay alive.

The turn   was no help whatsoever, but the   river certainly was. That filled in Oppenheim's gutshot, keeping him afloat and doubling him up close to 20,000.

Friday, July 9, 2010 11:47 AM Local Time

With the board reading     , Sandra Naujoks check-called a bet of 3,000 from her opponent before the dealer put the   out on the river. Naujoks checked again and her opponent fired 6,400. Naujoks went into the tank for a minute, but wound up folding her hand. She's down to 37,000.

We were just noting how Mike Sexton was on the short stack, and indeed he found a spot just now in which to try and improve his situation.

The hand began with a raise from a player in early position to 1,100, followed by a reraise to 3,000 from the player sitting to the raiser's left. Then Sexton reraised over the top from middle position for his remaining 12,000.

It folded back around to the first raiser who set out almost all of his stack -- about 18,000 worth -- save the single black (100) chip he'd been using as a card protector. The remaining player called, but the three players didn't reveal their hands quite yet.

The flop came     and that last 100 soon went in the middle. The player who had the others covered was already celebrating a bit as the cards were tabled. He had    for the set. Meanwhile, the original raiser tabled   , and Sexton showed   .

The turn was the   and river the  , and two players, including Sexton, hit the rail.

With four limpers in the pot, action was with Tiffany Michelle who raised it up another 3,500 from the button. The player in the small blind then re-raised an additional 5,700. The limpers all got out of the way and Michelle quickly called.

"Call! Ah shoot I just said call..." sighed Michelle, as she looked down at the 5,500 she had behind, and perhaps would've preferred to have just stuck them all in.

It didn't matter though, as the the flop came down     and the small blind moved all in with Michelle insta-calling.

Michelle:

Opponent:

The turn was the   and river the   and Michelle doubled up to 30,000.

On a flop of     Howard 'Tahoe' Andrew moved his last 13,925 into the middle with Sammy Farha making the call.

Andrew:

Farha:

The turn and river landed the   and   to see Andrew double through to 33,000 as Farha slips down 55,000 in chips.

On the board of      , Matt Matros was faced with a bet of 6,600 form his opponent. Matros tanked for a minute or two before making the call. His opponent tabled the    for the nut straight and Matros nodded his head as he mucked. Matros dropped back to 50,000 in chips.

Friday, July 9, 2010 11:42 AM Local Time

A player in middle position raised to 1,200, and Scotty Nguyen called from the small blind. Darryll Fish paid from the big, and all three checked the   flop. The turn brought the  , and Nguyen and DFish checked again. The original raiser bet 1,650, and Nguyen called while DFish mucked. The   river paired the board, and Nguyen bet out 6,200. That looked convincing to his opponent, who folded, showing the  . Scotty Baby decided to return the favor and showed the  . He had 25,200 after the hand.

Friday, July 9, 2010 11:39 AM Local Time

On a flop of     and facing a bet from the small blind of 2,700, Jesper Hougaard bumped it to 6,500.

His opponent made the call as the   landed on the turn and Hougaard's bet of 8,000 was enough to collect the pot.

The 2008 WSOP and WSOP Europe bracelet winner is now up to 58,000 in chips.

"Does anyone have Miami John's number?" asked Jonathan Aguiar to members of the media row.

"He's just blinding out over here!" he added.

The reason Aguiar was so concerned was that 'Miami' John Cernuto is seated on his direct right on the Orange Feature table in the Amazon Room.

Cernuto started the day with 25,300, and at this rate with blinds and antes costing him 1,050 a round, he could be eliminated sooner than he would have thought!

"All in and a call, Table 263!"

We hustled over to see the action. Someone had raised in late position, and Carter Phillips had called. From the button, Joseph Ward moved all in for about 10,000 total. That was good enough to fold the initial raiser, but Phillips made the call to put his man at risk.

Showdown

Phillips:

Ward:

The flop was a disaster for Ward, coming       and sending him shooting out of his chair. He clapped his hands together with a big, "No!" and table mate Greg Mueller mumbled, "It's a sick game..."

The turn   and river   did nothing to improve Ward's unenviable plight, and he has been eliminated after a very short Day 2. Phillips barely looked up from the massage he's getting; he's up to about 140,000 and has plenty of chips to enjoy that relaxing rubdown for a while longer.

Jonathan "xMONSTERxDONGx" Karamalikis check-called a bet of 900 on a flop of     before the   hit the turn. Karamalikis checked and his opponent fired 2,200. Karamalikis put in the check-raise to 5,000 and his opponent let it go.

Karamalikis is back up to 26,000 in the early goings.

Friday, July 9, 2010 11:32 AM Local Time

The small blind and Eric Baldwin, who was in the big blind, built a preflop pot of 3,500 and saw a flop of    . The small blind checked and then called a bet of 1,400 from Baldwin.

The small blind them led out with a 3,000 bet when the   hit the turn. Baldwin made the call and then both players checked the   on the river. The small blind showed    for a rivered pair of sevens but it was no good against the    of Baldwin.

With that win, Baldwin is up to 56,000.

Friday, July 9, 2010 11:31 AM Local Time

Leonard Nicoletta found himself all in on a     flop against Ford Eric.

Nicoletta:

Eric:

With Nicoletta in great shape to double, he would amazingly see the   roll out on the turn, followed by the   on the river to see the pot chopped up.

Great start to his day two of the Main Event!

Friday, July 9, 2010 11:30 AM Local Time

Brant Taylor opened from early position and got called by Richard Barton and Luca Pagano in the blinds. Barton checked the     flop to Pagano, who bet 1,200. Taylor moved all-in from early position, Barton folded and Pagano made the call.

Taylor

Pagano

Taylor made top pair when the   hit the turn and the   on the river counterfeited Pagano's two pair. Taylor raked in the pot, taking his chip count up to 18,300 while Pagano slipped to 21,000.

Friday, July 9, 2010 11:30 AM Local Time

Martin Berggren raised to 1,200 from under the gun and then action folded to Scott Vener in middle position. He moved all in for about 12,000 and David Arnold reraised all in from the next spot for about 40,000. Justin Conley was in the next seat and called all in for 11,000 before everyone else including Berggren folded.

Vener held the    but was dominated by Conley's   . Arnold had the most chips and dominated the both of them with the   .

The board ran out       and Arnold earned the double elimination en route to about 70,000 chips.
