EVENT UPDATES

view updates for day:
Sunday, June 20, 2010 10:14 PM Local Time

After eight and a half levels of play, we're ready to conclude for the evening as our survivors from each Day 1 get ready to meet tomorrow when they will get into the money and work their way to a final table.

Today's field was predictably smaller than yesterday's. Of the 1,119 who signed up for play today, 165 will play tomorrow. They'll be joining 290 additional players for a field of about 455.

Those who didn't make the cut today include Shannon Elizabeth, James Akenhead, David Bach, Victor Ramdin, Men Nguyen, Chino Rheem,David Singer, Ylon Schwartz, George Lind, Gavin Griffin, Michael Mizrachi, Jimmy Fricke, Antonio Esfandiari and Allek Kessler.

That's not to downplay those who have had successful days. Players bagging their chips for the night include chip-leader Ryan D'Angelo (67,875), Svetlana Gromenkova (34,925), Eric "gpokerg" Wasserson (30,000), Antoine Saout (27,000), Ari Engel (24,900).

The money bubble will pop when we reach 324 players, and it shouldn't take too much time to do so. After that, it'll be a drive to the final table and a bracelet worth a whopping $481,760.

Make sure you join us tomorrow at 2:30pm local time as we bring you all the action fit to print for the final three days of Event #36.

Sunday, June 20, 2010 10:02 PM Local Time

The board ran out       and Gromenkova slipped to 35,000 chips in the last minutes of the day.

Sunday, June 20, 2010 9:55 PM Local Time

When we arrived at the table the board was spread      and Antoine Saout fired a 1,800-chip bet from the big blind. Only the player in the small blind called.

The river card was a   and the small blind check-called a 4,000-chip bet from Saout.

The French tabled    and took the pot, is now up to 27,000 chips.

Sunday, June 20, 2010 8:58 PM Local Time

The player under the gun opened the pot with a 900-chip raise and next to speak, Adam Goulding re-popped it. Both player ended up all in pre-flop and our own Snoopy tabled   . His opponent showed    and without help from the board Adam is out of the tournament.

As if Ryan D'Angelo wasn't already a player to be wary of. The successful live tournament player just saw his stack shoot up to 45,000 after his    bested an opponent's    on a board of  .

Sunday, June 20, 2010 8:45 PM Local Time

Shannon Elizabeth shoved all in from late position and might have realized she was in trouble when the small bind called and the big blind re-shoved with the small blind once again calling.

Elizabeth:

Small blind:

Big blind:

The flop came   and was followed by the   on the turn and the   on the flop and that was it for Elizabeth.

Sunday, June 20, 2010 8:37 PM Local Time

We've yet to do an official survey of the field, but after this last hand we are confidant that Svetlana Gromenkova is our chipleader.

Gromenkova raised to 800 from the cutoff and was re-raised to 2,200 by Mark Harris, who was sitting in the small blind. Gromenkova thought for a moment and made the call.

The players checked all the way through to the river until we had a board reading   at which time Harris checked and Gromenkova bet 4,000. Harris thought for a moment before making the call.

Gromenkova turned over   for a straight and Harris mucked his   face up, stood and left the room. He wasn't eliminated, but he probably needed to cool down.

At our count, Gromenkova is up to 57,000 chips.

Sunday, June 20, 2010 8:34 PM Local Time

In middle position, Antoine Saout opened the pot with a 1,000-chip raise, and player on the button called.

The flop spread    , Saout lead with a 1,500-chip bet and was called. The turn card was a   and Saout check-raised to 7,000 a 3,500-chip bet from his opponent.

The big blind tanked and eventually folded.

Adam Goulding opened the pot in the hijack seat with a 750-cup raise and the player in the small blind went all in for about 4,000 chips. The big blind called and Goulding folded too.

The small blind tabled    and the big, pocket aces.

The board ran out       and the small blind is out of the tournament.

"I fold a big suited ace!", said Goulding, nice fold sir!

We were a little suspicious about what James Akenhead had when he limped in from middle position. A player in late position called as well, but Kenneth Damm raised to 1,250 from the cutoff. At this point Akenhead moved all in with the other player folding and Damm making the call.

Before cards were turned over Damm asked, "Do you have aces? Because I have kings" Damm showed his   and Akenhead shook his head and turned over  .

Upon seeing Akenhead's cards Damm asked, "Please hold up one more time," to which Akenhead said, "All he gets are aces and kings."

The flop was an unexciting  . The turn of   and the   on the river did nothing to change the situation and Akenhead exited the area wishing the players good luck.

We're now on a 90-minute break.

Sunday, June 20, 2010 5:40 PM Local Time

We got to this hand to see a flop of   and about 10,000 chips in the pot. Mark Harris had just moved all in and Kenneth Damm was contemplating a call.

"If you have aces or kings it's a flip," said Damm before hesitantly making the call.

Damm:

Harris:

Damm was excited about his outlook, but quickly lost enthusiasm as the board ran out with the   on the turn and the   on the river. As Harris calmly collected his chips, Damm couldn't help but shake his head at what could have been.

Harris is now up to 31,500, while Damm has fallen to 8,500

Sunday, June 20, 2010 5:30 PM Local Time

A player in middle position opened the pot with a 600-chip raise and Ryan D'Angelo re-popped it to 1,700. His opponent called.

The flop came out     and D'Angelo called a 3,400 check-raise by his opponent to his 1,400-chip bet.

The turn card brought a   to the tabled and both players ended up all in.

Showdown

D'Angelo:

Opponent:

The river card was a   and Ryan D'Angelo is now up to 30,000 chips.

With the board read       Antoine Saout's opponent fired a 2,000-chip bet. With about 5,000 chips in the pot, the French moved all in. His opponent snapped and Saout tabled    for a straight.

Antoine Saout is now up to 32,000 chips.

Sunday, June 20, 2010 5:06 PM Local Time

When we arrived at the table, Men Nguyen moved all in pre-flop for about 500 chips, and three of his opponents called.

The board       was checked all the way and Nguyen tabled   , one of his opponents showed    and "The Master" is out of the tournament.

Sunday, June 20, 2010 5:01 PM Local Time

Men Nguyen is in dire straits with just 600 chips left.

Sunday, June 20, 2010 4:33 PM Local Time

After taking a walk through the Pavilion, and the 440 or so players that are still alive, it looks like our current chipleader is Bashar Ramahi with about 42,000 chips.

He recently added a few more chips to his stack when he raised to 600 from under the gun and got two callers. He bet 1,150 into the   flop and took the pot down when the other players folded.

Sunday, June 20, 2010 4:23 PM Local Time

With the board read    , the player in the small blind fired a 300-chip bet, was called by a player in middle position and Edward Brogdon moved all in on the button. With only 1,100 chips on his stack Brogdon tabled    and took the pot, is now up to 2,100.
