EVENT UPDATES

view updates for day:
Tuesday, June 8, 2010 12:30 AM Local Time

Day 2 has come to an end in the second $1,000 tournament of the series. Today we started with 446 hopefuls, 324 of which would make the money. The money bubble came and went, and so did many of the players. 3,042 players entered the event but now we are left with only 56. Players are set to return tomorrow for Day 3 at 2:30 pm local time.

The field was reduced dramatically today, losing some big names along the way. John "The Razor" Phan, "Miami" John Cernuto, Kelly Kim, Bill Chen and Vitaly Lunkin are just some of the pros who didn't survive. On the other hand, Jared Hamby, Andy Black, Burt Boutin, and Ylon Schwartz are all in contention for the bracelet.

Our chip leader heading into Day 3 appears to be Matt Vance with 547,000. There are a number of other players who have the chips to go the distance including: Christopher Brammer (518,000), Daniel Carter (417,000),Daniel Thomas (210,000) and Nick Guagerti (191,000), just to name a few.

Check back tomorrow for the latest updates as we play down to a final table.

David "Bakes" Baker held a chip lead through much of the day. However, when he got his shrunken stack in from the small blind preflop with    he was called by the big blind who held   .

Baker was ahead at the outset and on the flop when it came  . However, the   came on the turn, and the   came on the river, knocking Baker out of the tournament.

The tournament director just announced we will be playing three more hands for the night.

Tuesday, June 8, 2010 12:04 AM Local Time

Jeremy Defrande was all in with one caller. His    was in poor shape against his opponent's   . When the flop came    , Defrande got up and started to collect his things. The turn was the  , which didn't change things. However, the   on the river gave Defrande a set and catapulted him to 240,000 chips.

Defrande is now at 240,000

Action has slowed tremendously as we enter the last minutes of the tournament. Andy Black and Jared Hamby have been seated at the same table; unfortunately, it doesn't look like they will be mixing it up too much before the end of the night.

A player in Seat raised to 12,000 and William Reynolds made the call from the small blind. After the big blind folded, the flop came     and Reynolds checked.

Seat 5 bet 9,000 and Reynolds made the call. The   on the turn inspired Reynolds to lead out for 22,000. Seat 5 called and they say the   hit the river. Both players checked.

"Chop?" inquired Reynolds as he turned over   .

"Nope," was the response from Seat 5, who turned over    for a pair of sevens.

"Beautiful," Reynolds mocked, "I guess you called to float." Reynolds was left with 88,000 after the hand.

Monday, June 7, 2010 11:23 PM Local Time

We arrived on the flop to see all of Dana Kellstrom's chips committed to a board reading  . Kellstrom had flopped top pair with his    but was no good against his opponent's   . When the turn came   followed by the   on the river, Kellstrom hadn't improved and went to collect his winnings.

Monday, June 7, 2010 11:14 PM Local Time

Victor Ramdin had the last of his 32,000 chips in the middle preflop and was depending on Jeffrey Fielder to double him up.

Ramdin:

Fielder:

When the board fell  , Ramdin was unable to pull off one more lucky win and has been sent to the rail.

Monday, June 7, 2010 11:09 PM Local Time

Will "the Thrill" Failla open-shoved for his last 40,000 from middle position with  . A player called him  . Failla called for the  , though that might have caused more problems than it solved. Instead, the board ran out  . Failla wished his table luck and didn't seem too upset. He'd already moved on to flirting with the dealer who came to take him to the payout desk.

Monday, June 7, 2010 11:08 PM Local Time

Andy Black had called an opponent's all in on a board reading  .

Black:

Opponent:

The board ran out    and Black had to give up a good chunk of his stack. He's currently down to 36,000.

Duane "D.J." Blanchard, who held   , called the all in bet of Bryce Daifuku, who held   .

The flop was disastrous for Daifuku when it came    , giving Blanchard a set. When the   hit the turn, the entire table started to exclaim, "Heart!" Sure enough, the   hit on the river! Unfortunately for Daifuku, it paired the board and gave Blanchard a winning full house.

Daifuku was eliminated from the tournament while Blanchard is up to about 158,000.

If Lady Luck has been on anyone's side tonight, it's been Victor Ramdin. He went all in for 19,000 from the cutoff and the big blind called in the dark.

Ramdin:

Opponent:

Simple arithmetic would tell you that Ramdin was a big dog, but when the flop came  , Ramdin found himself with the nuts, which held through the   on the turn and the   on the river.

After the pot Ramdin said, "I refuse to go down, folks." He's now at about 55,000.

Monday, June 7, 2010 10:55 PM Local Time

We didn't catch the hand but one of the most recognizable names in the field has been eliminated. John "The Razor" Phan is no longer in the tournament.

Monday, June 7, 2010 10:37 PM Local Time

Over at Table 299, the player in the small blind bet 5,500 when the flop came    . Shaun Deeb, who was in the big blind, made the call. When the   hit the turn, the small blind bet 11,500. Deeb again called.

The small blind fired 25,000 when the   was revealed on the river. Again, Deeb made the call. The small blind turned over    for three sevens. Deeb mucked his hand and was left with only 16,000.

A few hands later, Deeb was all in and then all out.

Quebec's Vincent Jacques won't be able to pull off a final table repeat this time around. He came in second in Event #5 and made a deep run in this event. However, he busted shortly after the last break of the evening and will have to root on his buddy Mathieu Clavet, who is still alive and kicking.

On a board of    , Octavian Voegele pushed his short stack all in and was called by Jeremy Dufrane.

Voegele:

Dufrane:

Dufrane sealed the victory when the   hit the turn. The   on the river made Voegele's elimination official. Dufrane is up to nearly 130,000.

Monday, June 7, 2010 10:18 PM Local Time

Players are back from the break and the cards are in the air!

Monday, June 7, 2010 9:54 PM Local Time

The remaining players are on a 20-minute break now. They are also coloring up the black T100 chips.

Monday, June 7, 2010 9:31 PM Local Time

With so few pros remaining in the field, it's uncommon to find pros at the same table. That is not the case at Table 304 where John "The Razor" Phan is sitting in Seat 1 and is right next to Burt Boutin in Seat 2.

Both of these players aren't afraid to mix it up and it's probably only a matter of time before they clash.

Monday, June 7, 2010 9:16 PM Local Time

Will Failla raised to 7,000 and was called by Vitaly Lunkin from the big blind. Both players checked after the     flop.

When the   came on the turn, Lunkin bet 8,000 and Failla made the call. Lunkin then checked the   on the river, which prompted Failla to bet 12,000.

Lunkin called and showed    for three fours. "Sooted," Lunkin explained in his Russian accent.

"You didn't do anything wrong. I'm worried for your future, but you didn't do anything wrong," replied Failla before mucking   .

Failla dropped to 40,000 and Lunkin is up to 95,000.
