Event #55: $1,000 TAG TEAM No-Limit Hold'em

Day 1 of Event #55: $1,000 Tag Team No-Limit Hold'em in the 2022 World Series of Poker (WSOP) at Paris and Bally's Las Vegas attracted 913 teams, with just 183 advancing to Day 2.

Way ahead of the pack are Peter Phan and Jeffrey Trina of Team Phan with a stack of 435,500. The next biggest stack is Nick Yunis and Reynel Hernandez of Team Yunis with a total of 268,000, and right behind them are Dennis Toms and Jose Giordani of Team Toms with a chip stack of 246,500.

Other notable teams still in the running include Team Nguyen with Brandon Nguyen and Ben Spragg with 152,000 and Team Baker with bracelet winners David 'ODB' Baker and Lance 'Cord' Garcia bagging 143,000. Team McCabe also made it to Day 2 with its members Linda McCabe and Solve for Y coach Christian Soto with a stack of 66,500.

The mood starting the day was electric, especially with Veronica Brill and K.L. Cleaton of Team Brill throwing stacks of fake $100s everywhere and jamming music all while wearing matching money shirts, chains and hats. Security even gave them a warning for being too disruptive with the music, but it was good vibes all around.

Phil Hellmuth and partner Brandon Cantu got into the action late in the day but were unable to spin it up. Other duos that weren't fortunate enough to make it through Day 1 included ​​Erik Seidel and Maria Konnikova, Maria Ho and Nemo Zhou, Maurice Hawkins and Jeffrey Silverstein, and PokerNews' own Yori Epskamp and Chad Holloway.

Day 2 of the three-day tournament will commence on Monday, June 27 at noon local time. Action will begin on Level 12 with blinds at 1,000/2,500/2,500 and the day will break after 11 one-hour levels of play. There are no breaks, (excepts for color-ups) since one member of each team is always on a "break."

The action folded around to Brian Hamel of Team Fitzjarrald in middle position and he jammed for 26,500. Quentin Crutel of Team Palvini was in the big blind and made the call.

The dealer spread a flop of    , giving Team Palvini a flush draw and table mate Christain Soto said, "Wow, that's a sweat."

The   hit the turn, giving Palvini the nut-flush but Team Fitzjarrald wasn't drawing dead as they turned a set of queens. The   on the river was a brick though, eliminating Team Fitzjarrald from the tournament.

On the river with about 20,000 in the middle, the board read       and Peter Phan of Team Phan led out for 6,000. His only opponent in the hand only thought about it for about a second and surrendered the pot.

With 240 players left they have reached their first 15-minute break of the day for the floor to color up the 100 valued chips.

The small blind raised to 3500 but then Safwane Bahri of Team Bahri three-bet to 12,500 from the big blind. The player in early position called and the two players went to a flop of    .

Bahri bet 6,000 and his opponent immediately shoved all-in. Bahri snap called and the cards were tabled, with the early position at risk.

The board completed    which meant Bahri's pocket kings held for the win and eliminated his opponent.

Kelly Minkin of Team Minkin was all in before the     flop and a player bet out, forcing the other players out of the hand before both hands were tabled.

Minkin had been dealt pocket queens as an extremely short-stack and the   turn and   river improved her to a flush to remain in the tournament.

Four players saw a flop of     and the action checked to Nick Yunis of Team Yunis in the cutoff who bet 3,000. The big blind called before a player in middle position raised to 10,500. Yunis called, as did the big blind.

The   hit the turn and the big blind checked before the middle position player moved all in. Yunis asked for a count and after hearing it was 23,800 he made the call. The big blind followed suit.

The   hit the river and the big blind checked to Yunis as he bet 20,000. The big blind folded and Yunis said to the all-in player, "I can beat kings but not aces."

The all-in player tabled   , making two pair on the river and Yunis took down the massive pot with   .
