Event #40: H.O.R.S.E. Championship

After over eight hours of play in a back-and-forth Day 3, Kevin Gerhart leads the final table into Day 4 of Event #40: $10,000 H.O.R.S.E. Championship at the 2021 World Series of Poker. The remaining players survived a penultimate day that started with 16 players and played down to the final five that will return tomorrow to play to a winner on PokerGO. The popular H.O.R.S.E. Championship attracted 149 entrants to a field that generated a prize pool of $1,389,425, of which $361,124 will go to the winner along with the WSOP gold bracelet.

Behind Gerhart are Eddie Blumenthal, two-time bracelet winner Marco Johnson, and bracelet winner Bryce Yockey with Brandon Shack-Harris returning on the short stack for a chance to spin it up to win his third bracelet.

Day 3 Action

Eric Rodawig, Michael Trivett, Max Pescatori, Kevin Song, Jerry Wong, Randy Ohel, and Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier all hit the rail in the first two levels of the day, and the remaining players were quickly down to an unofficial final table of nine.

Gerhart built his lead throughout the day at a volatile final table that took more than three hours before Benny Glaser was eliminated in ninth place by Gerhart's two-pair. It was another three hours of lead changes and doubles before the table saw its next elimination, David Benyamine, fall in in eighth place. Just a short time later, Jake Schwartz and Chris Vitch were ousted just a few hands apart to set the final five for tomorrow's finale. When the dust settled, Gerhart held a small chip lead over Eddie Blumenthal, who made a late charge after struggling to find traction all day.

Final Table Results and Remaining Payouts

The button will be on Shack-Harris and there is one more hand to be played in Limit Hold'em when the action resumes at 4 p.m. local time. There are 23 minutes left in level 23, which features limit blinds of 30,000/60,000 and limits of 60,000/120,000. The final table will be broadcast with hole cards exposed at 5 p.m. at PokerGO.

Chris Vitch raised and Kevin Gerhart three-bet in the small blind, Brandon Shack-Harris called in the big blind and Vitch called. On the     flop, Gerhart bet and earned two folds to reveal the    for a pair of queens.

One hand later, Vitch raised once more out of a stack of 255,000. Marco Johnson three-bet and Vitch then said "I don't think I am getting away from it" before getting it in preflop, Johnson looked him up.

Vitch spiked a gutshot on the     flop but the   turn and   river were both blanks to oust Vitch in 6th place. The remaining five players are now bagging up for the night.

Jake Schwartz and David Benyamine got it in on third street and Eddie Blumenthal looked them both up. As the tides changed back and fourth, Schwartz ended up with two pair. Blumenthal had a par of aces and low draw to improve to an eight-seven low and Benyamine caught nothing whatsoever to depart in 8th place for $38,035.

David Benyamine was all-in after third street for 205,000 total and Eddie Blumenthal had his jacks in the hole crushed with split kings. However, Benyamine nailed running cards to a full house and more than doubled.

The final eight players are on another break as Brandon Shack-Harris earned a small pot in Razz with a low rundown on fifth against a pair and high-card by Eddie Blumenthal.

Bryce Yockey and Eddie Blumenthal chopped a pot when the latter made deuces full on the       board while Yockey had a low.

Up next, Jake Schwartz chopped with Chris Vitch to add a few chips to his shorter stack.

Last but not least, Kevin Gerhart raised and was called by Schwartz, Vitch in the small blind and David Benyamine in the big blind. The flop came     and the action checked to Gerhart. He bet, Schwartz raised, Vitch and Benyamine folded and Gerhart called.

Both remaining players checked the   turn and Gerhart bet the   river to force a fold from Schwartz, further extending his comfortable lead.
