Event #54: 10,000 No-Limit Hold'em MAIN EVENT Championship

Action folded around to Phil Hellmuth in late position and he raised to 50,000. Alfredo Fernandez reraised to 150,000 from the small blind and Hellmuth made the call. The flop came      . Fernandez shoved all in for about 1,150,000 which was extremely close to Hellmuth's remaining stack. The call would have been for his tournament life or very close to it. Hellmuth thought for a bit, at one point saying, "So sick -- he's probably cold-shoving eights or something." Hellmuth eventually folded     face-up and as Fernandez stacked the pot, he tossed his     face-up into the muck. An obviously frustrated Hellmuth kept his composure.

Nothing seemed to go right for Keith Ferrera today, up to and including his last two hands in the Main Event. He ran pocket sevens into Stephane Hornet's pocket aces to lose all but 180,000 of his chips, and then he lost the last of his chips to Dennis Phillips just moments later. Ferrera pushed on the button with    , Phillips called from the small blind with    , and after the flop came       and the turn the   it looked like Ferrera would double up...but the   spiked on the river to give Phillips the pot and send Ferrera out of the tournament.

Terry Lade just took another pot, this one off of Andrew Rosskamm, and has now built his stack up to 3.625 million. Rosskamm is also near the top with 2.6 million.

Raja Kattamuri moved in before the flop wtih     and Darren Grant called with    . The       flop gave Grant top set and that was pretty much that for Kattamuri and his Main Event run.

With 110,000 already in the pot and the flop showing       Ivan Demidov bet 90,000 and Brandon Becker called. When the   turned Demidov checked then called when Becker bet 175,000. The   fell on the river and after Ivan again checked Becker bet 325,000. Demidov tanked for over five minutes, and finally the clock was called. Demidov used up all but ten seconds of his time before announcing the call, and his time was well-spent. His     were good against Becker's     and he's now up to 2.87 million. Becker now sits with 1.1 million.

The exact action is unclear, but we do know that Dale Hoy was all in before the flop for his tournament life. Hoy held     and was up against the     of Jamal Sawaqdeh. The board came           and Hoy's ace high was no good. He hit the rail while Sawaqdeh stacked up to just over 1,400,000 on the hand.

Action folded to Scott Montgomery in middle position and he opened for a standard raise. When action got to Dan Assor in the big blind, he pushed all in for roughly 300,000 and Montgomery made the call. The players showed: Montgomery:     Assor:     The board ran out           which was no help to Assor. He hit the rail and Montgomery stacked up to just over 2,300,000.

Brandon Cantu opened for 55,000 raise from middle position, Ivan Demidov reraised to 160,000 from late position and Brandon Becker moved all in for 1,040,000 over the top. Cantu let his hand go and Demidov did the same after a short think. Becker took down the pot without seeing a flop. After the hand, Cantu was down to 1,250,000 and Demidov was left with 1,520,000.

Alex Tinsley has been knocked out of the Main Event, but not without a little bit of strange behavior from Albert Kim. Tinsley opened the pot with a raise to 45,000. Kim, sitting in the big blind, announced a raise. Before he could count out how much of a raise he wanted to make, Tinsley reraised all in for 285,000 total. Kim asked for a floor to be called to the table so he could determine how much was the minimum he had to raise prior to Tinsley's all-in reraise. The floor responded that Kim was obligated to make a minimum raise to 74,000. With that, Kim announced his raise to 74,000 and then added that he was calling Tinsley's reraise as well! Tinsley:     Kim:     It was an all-diamond flop of      . Without running cards, Tinsley would be eliminated. He didn't get his runner-runner; the turn and river came     to make a flush for Kim. Tinsley is out, and Kim is over two million in chips.

Gert Andersen raised to 40,000 from middle position, and it folded around to Nikolay Losev, who called from the big blind. The flop came    . Losev checked, Andersen bet 60,000, and Losev called. The turn was the  . Both checked. The river brought the  . This time Losev pulled out a stack of twenty orange chips and set it out before him -- a bet of 100,000. Andersen immediately let it go. Losev is up to 2.24 million, while Andersen currently has about 475,000.
