Battle of the Pocket Pairs
There was mega action taking place over in Amazon Gold recently. Michael Holm had opened to 18,000 in the hijack and Marcos Rodriguez three-bet all in for 158,500 in the cutoff. Ian Pelz was on the button and flat called. The player in the small blind looked like he was tempted too, tanking for a couple of minutes before letting it go. Gouveia Tanks for Five Minutes to See Set over Set
On a board reading Elilton Gouveia was deep in the tank considering an all in river bet from Olivier Chaume. The pot had about 225,000 in the middle and the shove was for roughly 230,000.
Gouveia said to himself out loud "he checked the flop" a few times while contemplating the decision. His tablemates assured him that he could take his time. After over five minutes he started to turn his cards over and at the same time put a stack in the middle to indicate a call. Dodge Still Leads Main Event Despite Not Stacking in 20s
On a recent pass of Ryan Dodge's table, he told us that he had 1.8 million chips. On closer examination of his chips, however, instead of clean stacks of 20, his chips were stacked in stacks of 18.
"Woah," said Dodge, counting one out. Lo and behold it was a stack of 18. "I feel like I've had a bad beat!"
Despite this 'bad beat,' Dodge still sits on almost 1.6 million in chips.
