Phan Gets Value From McKeehen

The board was       and Joe McKeehen faced an 8,500 bet from Quyen Phan. The pot was already around 24,000 and McKeehen counted out the amount for a call.

As soon as McKeehen had counted it out, he put the chips back on his stack and took another peek at his cards. Then he decided to call and put the chips in, but he sent his hand to the muck when Phan showed him   .

Fraser Busts Andler Set Over Set

The action started with a raise to 750 by Brian Rast and Chris Fraser from one seat over bumped it up to 2,100. Christopher Andler called on the button and Rast also came along to see a flop of    . Rast checked and Fraser bet 5,000. Andler raised it up to 15,000 and Rast quickly folded, but Fraser called.

On the   turn, Fraser checked and Andler moved all in for what appeared to be 40,000, Fraser snap-called by tossing in a single chip.

While Andler flopped best, he only had one out to remain in contention with Fraser turning the superior set, and a blank   on the river was of no help for the Swede. Fraser, in the meantime, has jumped up to more than three times the starting stack, trailing only Matt Berkey in the Gold section.

A player in middle position limped in and Joe Hachem raised to 1,200 from the button. The small blind called and the middle-position player called behind. They went three-handed to the     flop and the action checked around.

The turn was the   and it checked to Hachem who bet 2,000. The small blind called and they went heads-up to the   river. The small blind checked and Hachem bet 4,000. After giving it some thought, the player called and Hachem tabled    for a turned straight to take the pot.

Joe McKeehen opened to 800 on the cutoff. Anderson Ireland in the small blind and John Beauprez in the big blind called.

A flop reading     was dealt. Ireland and Beauprez checked. McKeehen bet 1,200 and Ireland was the only caller.

The turn came the   and was checked through to the   river. McKeehen threw in a bet of 4,200. His opponent called. McKeehen tabled    to take down the pot and his opponent tossed his hand in the muck.

Griffin Eliminates Black, Adds to His Already Healthy Stack

The board read      , Robert Black bet around 6,000, and Gavin Griffin moved him all in for his remaining 23,500. Black thought for a few moments and then made the call.

Black tabled    for a pair of queens and Griffin turned over    for the nut straight, eliminating Black and securing the pot.

Gavin Griffin is the first player ever to win a WSOP, WPT, and EPT event for a triple crown. He will be looking to make a deep run and add Main Event champ to his resume.

Frasca Keeps Building

John Beauprez opened to 800 under the gun. Quyen Phan, in middle position, called, along with Brian Frasca in the hijack, the player on the cutoff, and the blinds.

The flop came    . The blinds checked and Beauprez bet 2,100. Phan and Frasca called, along with the player on the cutoff. The small blind folded and the big blind called.

The turn brought the  . The player in the big blind, Beauprez, and Phan checked. Frasca bet 4,500. Phan was the only one to stick around with a call.

The river came the  . Phan checked. Frasca fired 14,500 and Phan went deep into the tank, but proceeded to make the call. Frasca tabled    for a rivered full house. Phan sent her hand to the muck.

Two players departed in quick succession over on Table 461 and one of the vacated seats was soon filled by Thomas Lutz, while Jonathan Little remains on the same table with below starting stack. Antonio Payne raised to 900 from late position and Richard Seymour called from the button. The player in the small blind called as well and the     flop came down.

All three players checked on the flop to see the   turn and the big blind checked to Payne. Payne put in a bet of 1,000 and Seymour raised to 3,000. The player in the big blind folded and the action was back on Payne and he went for a three-bet of 10,200. Seymour took his time and called.

The river was the   and Payne lead out for 12,000. Seymour called and Payne rolled over   . Seymour then tabled    for two pair and he took down the pot.

One table over, Jennifer Harman sat down and she seems to have lost some chips already.

They went heads-up to the   river and the player checked. Gavin threw out a bet of 7,100 and her opponent quickly folded.

Margets All In on the Flop

The flop showed    , Leo Margets checked from the small blind, and Fadi Barakeh checked as well from the big blind. An opponent in late position bet 2,000 and Margets raised to 6,500.

Fadi Barakeh called, the late-position opponent three-bet to 15,000, and Margets moved all in for 39,875. Fadi Barakeh thought for several moments, making the call for his remaining 24,150, and the late-position opponent folded    face up.

Margets turned over    for a flopped set and Barakeh showed    for a nut flush draw. The turn made Margets shake her head as it came a spade, but it was the   that hit the table and she quickly smiled after realizing it gave her a dominating full house.

Margets now had Barakeh drawing dead to the   on the river and she scooped in a nice pot with her full house, eliminating Barakeh from the tournament.

Maudlin Takes From Esfandiari

Antonio Esfandiari has bounced back from a mediocre start here on Day 1a and climbed back to starting stack before losing a pot against David Maudlin on the main feature stage.

Esfandiari had raised to 775 and was called by Maudlin in the small blind and Robert Stuve in the big blind. The trio checked through the     flop. On the   turn, Maudlin bet 1,375 and Stuve folded, but Esfandiari called. Maudlin bet again on the   river for 3,200 and received a call by Esfandiari. Maudlin rolled over    for trips jacks to win the pot.

Kruk Chops it Up

When we arrived at the table, Christopher Kruk was already all in. There was about 50,000 in the pot and Kruk was all in for 35,000. The board read      . Kruk's opponent was deep in the tank and Owen Crowe called the clock on him.

When the floor arrived, they told the player he had 25 seconds plus a five-second countdown to make his decision. After a couple seconds, he asked who called clock and then made the call.

Kruk turned over    and the player that called had a matching   . They chopped up the pot and proceeded to the next hand.

Daniel Strelitz opened to 800 from early position. Noe Cantu, on the button, called along with Paul Lee in the small blind and Hassan Mechammil in the big blind.

Chanthabouasy Calls Hurlbut's River Bet

The board read       and Rodney Hurlbut bet 6,000 into a pot around 4,500. Steve Chanthabouasy thought for several moments before making the call and the two then revealed their hands.

Hurlbut turned over    for flopped trip kings and Chanthabouasy turned over    for trip kings with a higher kicker. Chanthabouasy let out a sigh of relief as he scooped in the pot.

A player in early position raised to 600 and it folded to Chris Laieta in the big blind who reraised to 2,600. The original raiser called and they went heads-up to the     flop.

Laieta checked and his opponent threw out a bet of 4,500. Laieta called and the dealer burned and turned the  . Laieta check-called a bet of 6,500 and the   hit the river.

Defending Champion Blumstein Eliminated on Feature Table

The ESPN feature tables kicked off at the start of Level 3 and among those to take a seat in the main spotlight were Jean Montury, Lacey Jones, defending champion Scott Blumstein, and Brian Yoon. The latter two tangled in a big pot that left the defending champion devastated, as he was sent to the rail early on.

Blumstein raised to 800 and Yoon three-bet to 3,700 in late position, which Blumstein called. On the     flop, Blumstein check-called a bet of 3,000 and did so again on the   turn for 10,000. The   appeared on the river and Blumstein checked with 27,350 behind. Yoon moved all in and Blumstein called it off with the    only for Yoon to turn over    for the back door nut flush.
