Gavin Smith Leads Final Five Players

Out of a total field of 668 entries, only five players remain. They will return tomorrow for an unplanned Day 4 to play down to a winner. Gavin Smith leads the way with 1,800,005 chips. After a roller-coaster of a day, Smith built up his stack at the final table and got a big double up at the expense of Allan Le in the last level of the night.

Philipp Eirisch went from being one of the short stacks to second in chips with 1,175,000 in the last hand of the night, which he won against Cody Crouch. Allan Le has 1,125,000, Cody Crouch has 565,000, and Keith Ferrera trails the pack with 320,000.

Twenty-seven players made it to Day 3 and twenty-two of them busted today in the money. Jason Somerville was one of the first casualties of the day, going out in 26th place ($5,639). Some other familiar faces who were eliminated today include Tim Burt, who went out in 18th place ($6,992), Kate Hoang, who busted in 15th place ($6,992), Bart Hanson (14th place for $8,850), John Monnette (ninth place for $11,431), Gary Bolden (eighth place for $15,059), David Bach (seventh place for $20,229), and Yuval Bronshtein, who was eliminated in sixth place for $27,696.

The final five players will pick up where they left off with three more hands of Omaha 8/8 at 2 p.m. tomorrow in the Amazon Room. They will continue with the same structure, playing 60-minute levels with 15-minute breaks every two levels. 

All returning players are guaranteed at least $38,634, and the winner will take home $189,223 along with a gold bracelet. Follow wsop.com for updates on the finale of Event #53.
