Max Steinberg leading the way
It's official! The 2015 WSOP Main Event, which started with 6,420 entrants several days ago, has fewer than 100 players remaining. With one level left in the day's play, 93 are still in the hunt to become the next World Champion.
The level was an eventful one that saw all change at the top of the counts. Max Steinberg and Justin Bonomo clashed in a huge pot that took a river shove from the former to take the pot down. That got Steinberg up to nearly five million and he entered break with 5,935,00 which is good for the chip lead.
Poker used to be more of an old man's game and then it became a young man's game due to the internet generation coming through. That doesn't mean the older generation can't hack it anymore. Pierre Neuville is a prime example. The former Hasbro Vice-President only took up playing the game (after a 40-year hiatus) seriously when he retired and just had an amazing level to rocket up the counts. His highlight of the level was undoubtedly flopping a set versus Patrick Chang and getting paid. Neuville heads into the last level with 5,015,000. The top three was rounded out by Anton Morgenstern who has 5,045,000.

One of the younger generation starting to emerge as a threat is British player, Toby Lewis. He's one of the respected online players on the planet and is pretty handy in the live arena too. He passed three-million after a three-way all in that saw him more than double and Alejandro Duque hit the rail. Lewis added even more after that hand and has 3,500,000 to play with in the last two hours of play.
It was a brutal end of level for Clayton Fletcher who went from a 3.8 million stack to out over the course of a few hands. His story can be read here and here.
An interesting fact is that there are ten bracelet winners still left in the field. They are: Steinberg, Danny Fuhs, Bonomo, Daniel Negreanu, Brian Hastings, Matt Jarvis, Steve Gross, Max Greenwood, and, Upeshka De Silva.
Matt Waxman. They weren't for THIS tournament though. Winning a standard bracelet in an amazing achievement in its self but winning the Main Event and becoming World Champion is another level entirely.
Just one more level to play once the players return in 20 minutes.
