Level 16 concludes, and the players are taking a 20-minute break.

From the 661 players who started the day, 531 survived the first two-hour level. Amar Anand entered the day with the chip lead at 1.139 million, one of only three players with a seven-figure stack. Through one level of Day 4, at least ten players have had their hands on a million chips at some point, through a few of those have dipped back into six figures as the level comes to a close.

2015 World Series of Poker

Michael Shanahan is the current chip leader, sitting atop the counts with 1.66 million. Shanahan began the day with just less than 800,000 chips, and his first level went about as smoothly as he could have hoped. He reached 1.1 million in a big hand against Brandon Adams, then passed 1.5 million with a runner-runner knockout about an hour into the day.

Daniel Negreanu had a good level, too. The six-time bracelet winner began the day with 444,000, and he quickly added to that at the hands of Ryan Teves. A few orbits later, he took a dent out Shanahan's towering stack, running down the nuts with queen-ten suited. Negreanu ended the level with 713,000 chips.

With the eliminations coming quickly, several of the short-stacked notables were unable to stay afloat. John Monnette got the last of his chips in with ace-seven against ace-king, and a king-high flop meant the end of his day. Chris Bjorn got his money in good with aces against ace-jack of hearts, but three more hearts on board sent Bjorin to the payout desk. Fellow bracelet winners Ben Volpe, Davidi Kitai and Vladimir Shchemelev were also eliminated before the first break.

Jonathan Duhamel, the 2010 Main Event champion, was eliminated by Shawn Keller. Duhamel took his stand with king-queen, and he was unable to overcome Keller’s ace-seven on a board that ran out ace-high. His exit leaves four former Main Event champions still alive: Phil Hellmuth (112,000), Jim Bechtel, Joe Hachem, and Ryan Riess (89,500).

Apart from Riess, there are another seven former November Niners still alive, too: Matt Jarvis, Marc-Etienne McLaughlin (343,000), John Racner, Andoni Larrabe, Anton Makiievskyi (412,500), JC Tran (277,000), and Scott Montgomery (697,000).

Play resumes in 20 minutes.
