The first level of Day 3 has come to an end and nobody enjoyed the level more than Amar Anand, who extended his chip lead on the field and is the favorite to become the first player to reach the one million chip mark.
Anand picked up pocket aces and bet all three streets, including a shove on the river on a board of and was called by Marcelo Fonseca. Fonseca showed pocket queens and took down a pot worth almost 400,000 to chip up to 805,000. He extended his lead throughout the level and finishes the level with 834,500.
Anand is has a sizable lead on the rest of the field, but he is joined at the top of the counts by Calvin Lee with 578,600, Luther Tran 529,500, Alan Mastic, 505,500, and David Jackson with 475,000
While Anand had a good first level, it watched many pros hit the rail. Melanie Weisner ran her pocket jacks into pocket queens to hit the rail and was joined on the rail by Jared Hamby, Matthew Haugen, Fabian Quoss, Eric Mizrachi, Joe Serock, Brian Yoon, and Greg Raymer.
Raymer was the only former Main Event champion to be eliminated that level, but there are still a few players left in the field looking to earn their second Main Event title. Phil Hellmuth, Scotty Nguyen, Joe Hachem, Jim Bechtel, Jonathan Duhamel, and Ryan Riess are the only remaining former champions.
Bechtel, who won the event in 1993, has the most chips of the bunch with 350,000. The players are taking a 20-minute break and action will resume with blinds of 1,000/2,000 with a 300 ante.
