Welcome to Day 1A of the Monster Stack tournament!
This is a unique event on the WSOP schedule. For a $1,500 buy-in, players begin with 15,000 in chips - equivalent to ten times the buy-in amount. The Monster Stack debuted last year, attracting a massive field of 7,862 players. After five days of poker, Frenchman Hugo Pingray held all the chips, earning his first WSOP bracelet and $1,327,083.
Last year, the enormous popularity of this tournament prompted the last-minute announcement of an unscheduled second starting flight. As a result, this year's Monster Stack schedule has been adjusted to accommodate the expected demand. There are two starting days: Day 1A begins today at 10 a.m., and Day 1B begins Saturday at 10 a.m. On Sunday, surviving players from both flights will return in a combined field for Day 2.
Day 1 is scheduled for 11 hour-long levels, with a 90-minute dinner break after Level 8.
Play begins at 10 a.m., and we'll be here all day bringing you updates from the tournament floor.
