A Big Clash Looms

On Table 355 in the Amazon Tan section there are two players, seated just two seats apart, with enormous stacks. Leonardo Emperador, from Venezuela, sits on 785,000 and he looks to improve on his 2008 finish when he placed 261st in this event.

Andrew Liporace has not made the money in the WSOP Main Event just yet, but his current stack gives him a very good chance to make it there.

Ivey and the Vet

Phil Ivey opened the pot and got a call from an older gentleman in the big blind. The flop was     and it was checked to Ivey. He bet 8,000 and got a call. The turn was the   and now the big blind led for 25,000.

Ivey looked affronted and asked, "How much you got?" He saw a stack of 18,000 behind and gave his man an Ivey glare. There can't be many scarier things at a poker table than that but this gentleman was wearing a Vietnam Veterans hat and didn't look like he was too intimidated.

Ivey threw in the call and while army experience helps steel nerves under pressure, so does a set as Ivey faced    and had made the call with just   . The river bricked out and another chunk of Ivey's stack went missing.

Pierce Back to 200K; Moneymaker Joins Table

Paul Pierce reached for chips, slowly flicking out a raise to 6,000 from under the gun, and the action folded to a player in the small blind. He called, Michael Binger surrendered his big blind, and the pair took a flop of    .

The player checked, Pierce continued for 15,000, and the player folded.

Hougaard Hates Himself

Jesper Hougaard

A player raised to 7,000 from the cutoff and two-time bracelet winner Jesper Hougaard three-bet to 18,500 from the big blind. The player in the cutoff called and the flop brought out    .

Hougaard bet 22,000 on the flop and his opponent made the call. The turn was the   and the Dane slid out a bet of 50,000.

The player in the cutoff moved all in for 102,500 total and Hougaard went into the tank.

"When I bet the 50,000 I was sure I was going to call a shove," Hougaard sighed. "But now I'm not sure anymore."

A few minutes went by and eventually Hougaard painstakingly let go of his hand.

After a moment Hougaard looked up from the table and said, "That wasn't pretty," as he's left with just 126,000 chips.

Moneymaker Can't Find a Fold

Chris Moneymaker

We found Chris Moneymaker considering a bet of 48,500 from an opponent in the cutoff. Moneymaker had checked the final board of       from early position.

"Quad fives?" he said. "Pocket deuces? You've either got quads...a set of jacks...a set of twos...a draw..."

Moneymaker's voice trailed off, and he opted to look his opponent up. His first instinct was on:   . Moneymaker shook his head and mucked   face up.

"Nice hand," he said with resignation.

Tricky Business, Poker

The board read       and with 50,000 in the pot a player bet 6,000 and Neil Farrell slid out a bet of 55,000. He then put his hoodie up to cover his face a rested his forehead on the table for good measure. This got a chuckle out of his opponent who still had a tricky decision to make. He decided to fold and Farrell came out of hiding to collect the pot.

After a bit of conversation beck and forth asking if Farrell really was chasing down that flush draw he responded that he had a straight draw too. Asked why he acted so nervous on the river Farrell replied, "I'm always nervous. Poker's a tricky business, and it's the main event."
