Zaichenko Gets a Double

Andrey Zaichenko

Pot-Limit Omaha

The board read      when we arrived on the scene, as Sergey Rybachenko had put Andrey Zaichenko all in for his tournament life.

There was about 90,000 already in the pot when Rybachenko put Zaichenko all in for 41,000 chips and he was far from happy about it.

After about six minutes, the clock was called and Zaichenko decided to put in the call.

Rybachenko:
Zaichenko:

The river brought the   and Zaichenko erupted in a huge cheer as he stayed alive in this event.

Hellmuth Finally Succumbs

Phil Hellmuth

Pot-Limit Omaha

Phil Hellmuth was doing his best to claw his way back into contention here in Event #46: $50,000 Poker Players' Championship, but a big pot-limit Omaha hand put an end to his comeback.

In what would be Hellmuth's final hand, Michael Mizrachi raised and Brandon Shack-Harris called. David Steicke then three-bet the size of the pot, and Hellmuth four-bet pot. Mizrachi called, Shack-Harris folded, and Steicke called. The     flop saw Steicke get his remaining chips all in, Hellmuth did the same, and Mizrachi called to put both players at risk.

Steicke:
Hellmuth:
Mizrachi:

Steicke was ahead with two pair, and it held as the   blanked on the turn followed by the   on the river. Steicke took down the pot while Hellmuth was eliminated from the tournament.

"Good luck, everyone," Hellmuth mustered before exiting the tournament area.

Not Enough Action for Hansen

Pot-Limit Omaha

Still playing out of the rack he brought to the table, Gus Hansen appears as interested in the three games of Open Face Chinese he has going on his iPad as he is on the game at hand.

He completed from the small blind and David Bach checked his option before a     flop came down. Both players checked, but when Hansen bet 1,400 on the   turn, Bach sheepishly turned over the   and folded.

A hand later, Hansen fired a 3,000-chip button raise at the blinds and picked them up.

ODB & Ashby Chop Up Kenney

Omaha 8

Bryn Kenney was nursing a short stack, and he got it all in preflop after a three-way raising war in a hand of Omaha hi-low. The other two players in the hand, David "ODB" Baker and Richard Ashby, played a side pot, and when all was said and done the board read      .

Ashby:
Baker:
Kenney:

Ashby had a straight for the high, while Baker had the nut low to chop up Kenney's chips and send him to the rail.

ElkY Chips Up

No-Limit Hold'em

Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier appears to be using the big bet games to chip up. One hand after picking up the blinds and antes with an under the gun raise, he defended his big blind against a Brian Tate 2,800 open.

Grospellier check-called 4,500 on the     flop and both players checked the   turn. But when the   river fell Grospellier led out for 11,100, Tate wasted little time making the call and mucking after Grospellier tabled   .

Velador Vanquished

Stud

"Seat open! Table 361," a dealer yelled. Luis Velador had fallen at the hands of 2010 World Series of Poker Main Event champ Jonathan Duhamel.

The specifics of the hand escaped us, but we do know Velador got it in with fives and sixes in the first four cards against Duhamel, who started with aces. Velador held through sixth street, but Duhamel managed to catch a third ace on seventh to dispatch his opponent.

The World is Yours

No Limit Hold'em

In a three-way pot with the board reading       and about 17,000 in the middle, John Hennigan checked the small blind. Eric Wasserson did the same from the big blind before Sergey Rybchenko fired 11K from the button.

Hennigan made the call, but Wasserson tanked for a good minute or two before letting it go.

Hennigan's    was good over Rybchenko's   .

Negreanu Pleases the Fans

Fans line the rail to catch a glimpse of their favorite poker players in Event #46: $50,000 Poker Players' Championship

An older lady on the rail held up a handwritten sign that said, "Daniel, would you please sign my hat?" and waved it slowly as she carefully watched his every move.

As soon as Daniel Negreanu noticed the sign he said, "Well, of course I will. Let me just play this hand."

After the hand, Negreanu got up from his seat, signed autographs for at least five eager fans awaiting a few seconds with their favorite poker player.

"You're the best, man, I really like your play," a bystander said, who had nothing to be signed but felt happy to just get a handshake from the six-time World Series of Poker bracelet winner.

After having his picture taken with a few people on the rail, Negreanu hopped back into his seat just in time for the next hand. The $50,000 Players Championship is not only one of the biggest events of the year for players, but also for fans looking to catch a glimpse of their favorite players.
