Ian Cohen - Champion
After three long starting flights and an absolute battle of a Day 2 session, eight players bagged up chips for the grand finale that is the WSOPC circuit Main Event here at Harrah's Pompano Beach Casino.
When those eight players returned today, all of them had the same goal in mind; to claim a WSOPC Main Event ring by day's end, but when play got underway, one player was a mathematical favorite to be the last man standing based on chip stacks and now, that man stand's alone.
Ian Cohen was comfortable when he walked into the Harrah's Pompano tournament room today. Why? Well, holding the chip lead helped, but more than anything, he felt at home.
That's because he is home. Ian has grinded cash games here for years and a quick scroll through his first place finishes on Hendon Mob will reveal almost 30 wins that took place in this very building!
After navigating his way through the final table masterfully to get himself into heads up play with about a 6:1 chip lead against Josh Hillock, that comfort level was on full display as he ground Hillock down to just two blinds before putting the final nail in the coffin in Hillock's tournament run.
Josh Hillock - Runner Up
For his part, Hillock, a local business owner and "retired" professional poker player, he easily held court as the jester of the table, keeping the good spirits, laughs and conversations going on his way to a score that just surpasses his previous career live high score and moves him over the $1,000,000 in live earnings.
Anatoly Nikitin was putting a run together late but blinded down a bit then jammed the small blind and ran into the queens of Cohen in the big blind to be sent home with a new career high live score to add to his over $500,000 in live earnings.
At the end of the day, Cohen was overjoyed to get his first WSOP circuit ring in the main event at his home court. He couldn't say enough about the property and the staff and closed off with a huge thank you before noting that he's going to celebrate by buying a jet ski.
Final Table Payouts:
- Ian Cohen - $183,100
- Josh Hillock - $128,728
- Anatoly Nikitin - $88,364
- Robert LeBeau - $61,864
- Steve Karp - $44,190
- Jose Chapui - $32,219
- Jack Nathan - $23,988
- James Carroll - $18,246
- Marcos El-Husick - $14,184
- Zhen Cai - $11,276
That does it for the WSOPC Main Event from Harrah's Pompano Beach Casino! Stay tuned to the coverage, though, as we close out the series with updates of the remaining few events in the room!
