Kyle Steward won his first ring in Event #6: $400 NLH for $8,689 in a very quick 8 hour tournament that was capped off by a back and forth heads up battle.
The 33 year old Steward is a pipeliner by trade and said he plays poker whenever he can while traveling around the country for work from California where he was born, to Texas where he lived for a while to this area of the country where he has played many times before.
He made sure to credit his dad as he explained, "My dad taught me to play when I was 12 and I have been playing all my life since then." Mainly a cash game player, he had only three results on his resume prior to this, two from Choctaw in 2020 and one all the way back in 2010 in England.
The final table was a good battle as Mark Fink was going for a ring on back to back days and he made it to three-handed play with Hayley Hochstetler who was looking to get her first ring after several close misses. Hochstetler took the lead three-handed and almost had a big heads-up lead but Steward hit the turn to make a better straight and take the lead. That ended up being the turning point as Fink went out in 3rd shortly afterwards to set up heads up.
Steward and Hochstetler both had chances to win it and both hit cards to come from behind in allins to extend the battle. Eventually Steward ran a little hotter in the allins to capture his first ring.
