Raul Garza
Event #10
No-Limit Hold'em
Buy-In: $1,100
Entries: 387
Prize Pool: $156,750
Raul Garza secured his first World Series a Poker gold ring early Saturday morning at Harrah’s Cherokee Circuit series.
The win came in Event #10: $1,100 No-Limit Hold'em, a two-day tournament that registered 387 entrants.
Garza came into Day 2 sitting 5th in chips with 561,000 in chips but when the final table was set, he sat in ninth with 330,000.
“It was a grind, I had the short stack for most of the final table,” stated Garza about his roller coaster Day 2.
“I was able to get lucky with nines against jacks against Vincent (Moscati) and then after five-handed play, I was able to play poker again.”
From four-handed action it was a quick affair to the heads-up battle against ring winner Eddie Blumenthal. Garza was at a 2:1 chip disadvantage but was able to get an early double to turn the tides and secure his first Circuit ring.
Garza, a fairly new face to the Circuit scene, has been putting in work since 2018, making three final tables with two second-place finishes before his win today.
“I feel good,” Gaza said after his win, “This was my third time being heads-up and I was feeling the pressure, I couldn’t lose again.”
Along with the gold ring, Garza won a seat into this summer’s Tournament of Champions, and pocketed $74,995, pushing his WSOP earnings to over $300,000.
