Kelly Black
Event #3
No-Limit Hold'em
Entries: 939
Prizepool: $309,960
There’s a new World Series of Poker Circuit ring holder as Kelly Black won his first career WSOP tournament on Sunday night. Black topped the 939-player field in Event #3: $400 No-Limit Hold’em to earn $52,173 and mark his highest cash to date. Along with the cash and the new hardware he has also earned a spot into the ‘Tournament of Champions’ in Las Vegas.
A large field of 939 entered the tournament but only 50 of them remained at the start of Day 2. Black started the day around the middle of the pack with 164,000 in chips and made it to the final table with enough chips to battle, having 1,235,000.
“There were a lot of all-ins that I was behind on, specifically when I had ace-six against ace-king and I hit a six which got me through,” discussed Black about one of his double ups to remain in the game. “I had a lot of the one’s where I statistically shouldn’t have won, so I feel very good about being here.”
Black started playing poker on a video game roughly 20 years ago or so on PlayStation and then began playing a little bit online from there. He also has weekly home game he attends with his friends. “I occasionally play some tournaments as well; I was just at the Cherokee Casino and did pretty well there. I finished first in a daily and cashed in one another event,” He concluded.
