Patrick Wagner
California native Patrick Wagner has taken down the final WSOP Circuit ring at Choctaw, Event #13: $400 No-Limit Hold’em (1-Day), earning $21,414. For Wagner, this will be his second WSOP ring, adding to the one he earned two years ago in a $250 No-Limit Hold’em Seniors event.
The moments following his victory, Wagner was even-keeled, “I play a lot of small poker tournaments over the years and won a few. No emotion really up or down. I like winning, I’m excited to win so I wont say I’m not however there’s no weight lifted off my shoulders.”
Wagner’s win came at the end of a hard-fought, wee-hours duel against a very experienced 27-year-old in Nick Pupillo. The road to victory was not easy as Pupillo has two rings of his own and nearly one-million in career WSOP earnings.
In the determining hand of the night, Wagner called Pupillo’s three-bet all-in with 7s-4s against his 7x-6x. The dealer tabled an interesting flop of 5s-As-4x, giving both players a piece of the board. The turn and river fell Jx – Ax and Pupillo did not improve, leaving Wagner the victor. Wagner was not shy in giving his thoughts on his decision, “He had been shoving quite a bit, he shoved the last six of seven hands. I actually folded quite a bit to him so that was probably a horrible call but I picked-up a slight tell that he was just making a move, and I could tell. At that point we were 60-40 on the chips and we flipped back-and-forth and I just wanted to play it out.”
This victory is a good send-off for Wagner as he plans on retiring within the next month. The Richardson, Texas resident and long-time AT&T Accountant will ride-off into the sunset with a phenomenal performance and victory in the final Choctaw ring event.

Sunday features the final ring event of the Choctaw Durant Circuit series. Event #13: $400 No-Limit Hold'em begins at 2:00 p.m. and a champion will be crowned by the end of the day. Players will be allowed unlimited re-entry during the registration period, which stays open till the start of Level 9.
Here is a quick rundown of Event #13:
- Players start with 15,000 in tournament chips
- Blinds start at 100/100 with Big Blind Ante beginning in Level 2
- There are 20-minute levels for the duration of the tournament
- One-day event and is playing down to a winner
- There are breaks after every six levels of play with dinner break after Level 18
- Late registration and unlimited re-entry is open until the start of level 9 (~4:45 p.m.)
